A 37-year-old Indio man was sentenced Thursday to eight years and eight months in prison for his role in the 2012 ambush of three law enforcement officers who escaped injury despite a hail of gunfire. David Anthony Hurtado Jr. , pleaded guilty July 8 to one count each of assault with a semiautomatic rifle on a peace officer, assault with a firearm on a peace officer and discharging a firearm. 28, 2012, three days after a barrage of bullets allowed him to escape from two California Highway Patrol officers, who had pulled him over on suspicion of drunken driving, and a U.
