Audi is the latest of a small but growing band of brands to offer Kiwi motorists a plug-in hybrid option. By morning, with its battery fully recharged, the Audi A3 e-tron is ready for a pre-breakfast return run to Moana Pool, followed by the post-breakfast commute to work. Depending on how much running around is required at the end of the day, there's a fair chance the Audi will end up back in the garage having spent the entire day running on battery power alone. The Audi A3 e-tron is just the second of a growing number of plug-in hybrids now available in New Zealand to have passed through Drivesouth's hands for a full road test appraisal. The first, the Holden Volt, provided a futuristic introduction to this new generation of machines in 2013. Possessed of a 70km range on battery power, it delivered a personal milestone, by enabling me to undertake (with careful planning) an entire... Knowing at the outset I have one trip on my agenda beyond the lesser 60km battery-only range of the Audi A3 e-tron, this time around I make no attempt to complete a zero-emissions motoring mission.
