Posh for less dosh: Luxury motoring at bargain-basement prices - Mirror.co.uk

What do Morgans, Caterhams and Land Rover Defenders have in common. It is virtually impossible to buy a Morgan for under £10,000, regardless of when it was made. The cheapest I could find was £13,200 and that was a 1976 car. Caterhams are the same: virtually unobtainable for under eight grand regardless of spec, age or nick. The Flying Spur is £140,900 today but within a dozen years it will be cheaper than a Morgan. Same with Rollers and big Mercs and BMWs. Of course if it goes wrong in a big way it’s bad news, but cars are getting more reliable, especially the electronics. BENTLEY TURBO R The late 1980s and 1990s are good for Mulsannes, Turbo Rs and later, Brooklands models. We found: a 1999 Turbo R in red with 116,000 miles on the clock. Only £7,995. ROLLS-ROYCE When I was a kid you rarely saw a Rolls but if you did it was a Silver Shadow. Shads are cheap now with ratty ones available under five grand, but they’re old and can be rusty. Look instead at the Silver Spur from the early 90s. Sister to the Bentley above, the Spur has all the luxury and presence of a 2013 Roller. Source: www.mirror.co.uk
