High School Notes: Wando's Amp Moore signs with Newberry; playoff schedule - Charleston Post Courier

Wando basketball standout Amp Moore has signed to play at Newberry College, the school announced Wednesday. Moore, a 6-4 guard, averaged 12 points, six assists and five rebounds as a senior and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Game. As a junior, he scored 12 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists in the state championship as Wando won last season. “Amp Moore is one of my all-time favorite players,” said former Wando coach David Eaton, who left to coach at Greater Atlanta Christian. “We are very fortunate to get Amp and I am really looking forward to having Amp in the Newberry basketball program,” said Newberry coach Dave Davis. Class AA golf tourney Defending state champion Bishop England will serve as the host school for the Class AA state golf tournament on May 18-19. The 36-hole event will be played on the course at Charleston National Golf Club in Mount Pleasant. Bishop England junior Jamie Wilson is the defending medalist after winning a five-man playoff in last year’s state tournament. Furman University will host the 54-hole AAAA state tournament on May 18-19 while Coastal Carolina’s Hackler Course will host the AAA state tournament on the same date. Source: www.postandcourier.com
