Consumer technology is going to exist indefinitely, perhaps for as long as the human species exists. At CleanTechnica, we try to feature consumer technologies that help to reduce global warming pollution and other types of pollution. I saw the exact same thing on pictures of the Chevy Bolt prototypes and thought it must be some weird new paint process test or something, but here’s BMW doing the exact same thing. Hmmm, maybe it’s meant to disguise nuances of the car’s shape to prevent competitors from copying tweaks for aerodynamic efficiency honed by hundreds of hours of wind tunnel tests… or something…. Originally, manufacturers did this to ‘disguise’ their new products and thereby hopefully make it less easy for competitors to figure out what they were up to when it comes to the outward appearances of their new designs. The squiggly camouflage pattern makes it harder to make out the shape of the car’s body. As manufacturers found out that their ‘disguised’ cars drew quite a lot of attention from the public and the motoring press, causing wild speculation and ditto rumours, but always mentioning the brand of the car, they have started to realise the...
