Former Waco financial planner sentenced in 'Ponzi-type scheme' - Waco Tribune-Herald

Jones, 61, owner of Charles D. Jones Capital Management Inc. “I failed those people, and I want you to know, Judge Smith, that I am a humbled and broken person,” Jones said. Jones pledged to spend the rest of his life, including his time in prison, trying to become a better person and to make amends to those he wronged, including trying to pay the court-ordered restitution. Before sentencing Jones, the judge said it is important that the public’s perception of the court system is one of fairness and that no one is given “undue favor” because of status in life or educational or business backgrounds. The judge also ordered Jones to be supervised by federal authorities for five years after he is released from prison. Jones’ attorney, Rob Swanton, asked that the judge recommend that Jones be sent to the federal prison in Bastrop and that he be allowed to turn himself in to Bureau of Prison officials once it is determined where he will be incarcerated. In a bitter but controlled victim-impact statement, Scott Cashion Thomas, grandson of Virginia and Roy Cashion, told the judge that Jones betrayed the trust his grandfather put in him to manage the sizable estate Cashion amassed after.
