1990 Buick Reatta - San Francisco Chronicle

I bought my Buick Reatta when it was new because of a deal I made with my son. The Jag was a fun/special occasion car, but I needed to get a new everyday car. He chose a Pontiac Fiero, and when it was paid off in December 1989, I bought a 1990 Reatta for myself. I love my Reatta, even after all these years. People often come up to me in parking lots and ask, "What is it. " and are stunned when I tell them it's a 22- year-old Buick Reatta. They are really different cars , though, and the Allante was expensive - more than twice as much as the Reatta. If you don't remember the Reatta, you're probably not alone. It was Buick's first two-seater since 1940 and was hand-assembled by teams working at stations (as opposed to a standard assembly line) with a strong attention to detail and quality. Even the paint was specially applied, which is one reason why many Reattas still look so good today. Unfortunately, GM badly misjudged the market and made several mistakes that limited the appeal of the Reatta. Source: www.sfgate.com
