2016 Buick LaCrosse Spy Photos: Larger and In Charger - Car and Driver (blog)

What It Is: A mildly camouflaged 2016 Buick LaCrosse caught testing near our Ann Arbor offices. Thanks to the minimal effort taken to hide the greenhouse and body sides, we can tell the LaCrosse has a gently sloping backlight, a crease along its lower body, and a trademark character line that runs from the rear door to the haunches. While we expect the Avenir—or a model wearing its styling DNA—to eventually appear at the tippy top of the Buick lineup, the maker nevertheless needs to keep its other offerings contemporary. Introduced for the 2010 model year, the second-generation LaCrosse was updated for the 2014 model year and will give way to a more dramatically styled car with a more premium aesthetic. Platform: The current LaCrosse is built upon a version of GM’s versatile Epsilon II platform, although the model has received specific suspension tunes, including the availability of the GM’s HiPer Strut front suspension. The new model is expected to adopt the latest version of the front-drive-based architecture—dubbed E2XX—which also will underpin the next Buick Regal, Chevrolet Impala, and other mid- and full-size vehicles.
