Man arrested in fatal hit-and-run in Sterling Heights - The Detroit News

Sterling Heights — A 22-year-old Sterling Heights man was arrested late Monday after he allegedly struck and killed a woman who was crossing the street while pushing her teenage son in a wheelchair, police said. The man allegedly fled the scene after hitting the Sterling Heights mother and son around 9:05 p. m. on southbound Ryan, north of 14 Mile. Witnesses attempted to follow his 2008 Cadillac CTS but he was driving too fast, police said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while her 15-year-old son remains hospitalized at Troy Beaumont Hospital with what are believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries. An initial investigation revealed the mother and son were not crossing at the intersection or crosswalk, police said. The driver’s Cadillac, which police said suffered “extensive front end damage,” was discovered abandoned Monday in Highland Park. Traffic on Ryan was diverted around the crash site and reopened before midnight, police said. Source: www.detroitnews.com
