Glance Back - Elk Grove Citizen

A group of boys from the Elk Grove chapter of the Future Farmers of America and the 4-H Club got together recently to bale straw for the state fair and various fairs next year. Participating were Russell Lewis and Don Kammerer of 4-H and Ken Buscher, Bob Sanders, Joey Gomes, Frank Dunbar, Claude McWherter, Robbie Summers and Don Veninga of FFA. Eugene Leonard Brown, Elk Grove, welcomed a son on July 27…Mr. and Mrs. William Martell, Elk Grove, welcomed a daughter on Aug. Lauralee Hill, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hill of Elk Grove is one of the teen hopefuls competing in the Miss Teen of Northern California contest at the State Fair. Lauralee is one of 21 girls chosen from a field of 116. She will be a senior at Elk Grove Senior High School. Tex and Lola Bourland have recently become the new chefs of the Elk Grove Club Café on Elk Grove Boulevard. Gene Dal Porto, president of the board of directors, Methodist Hospital has announced that a group of interested citizens have recently banded together to create a new organization intended for support of the hospital. Bob Batey, president of Bob Batey Chevrolet, Elk Grove, was one of the first to receive a membership card to the Friends of Methodist Hospital that hopes to provide a broad base of community support for the hospital’s needs.
