Woman who lost home in fire arrested on larceny, exploitation of elderly - Ocala

Sheila Krebs was arrested Friday and charged with larceny of a person 65 years of age or older and exploitation of the elderly, both of which are felonies. Krebs, 58, is accused of convincing an 81-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease to transfer the title of his 2011 Chevrolet Equinox van to her, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office arrest report. Krebs was hired by the man's daughter to provide care to the man about eight months ago. Krebs reportedly knew the daughter held the man's power of attorney. But, investigators said, she took the man, who has a documented lack of capacity to consent, to the Sumter County Tax Collector's Office in March, where the man signed over the vehicle title to her, the report states. When interviewed by investigators, Krebs said she knew the man's daughter had his power of attorney but she still took the man to the tax collector's office to request a duplicate title. On July 20, Krebs' home at 13890 NW County Road 320 caught fire just before 2 a. m. The 1938 mail-order catalog home was destroyed, as were many of Krebs' possessions. In the wake of the fire, at least one crowdfunding campaign was started to benefit Krebs, who did not have insurance on the home. Source: www.ocala.com
