Local woman is selling her classic Ford Fairlane to pay property taxes ... - Hutchinson News

Dorce Stapleton loves everything about her 1955 Ford Fairlane. She loves that it was the first automatic Ford made. She also loves that the 60-year-old vehicle has only been driven 72,000 miles. However, in recent days Stapleton has been anguishing over the four-door sedan, because tough times have forced her to put the vehicle up for sale to pay back property taxes. Because she saw the delinquent tax list over a weekend, she couldn’t call the Reno County Treasurer’s office until the following Monday morning. In the meantime she knew what she needed to do. She had a friend place the Ford Fairlane on Reno County Buy, Sell and Trade. She realized how attached she was to the Ford, which she purchased 47 years ago from the original owner. “The car was just 13 years old back then,” said Stapleton. When she moved on to Mennonite Friendship Communities, she drove the Ford over to South Hutchinson to work. That was until she bought a used Chevy Caprice, a 24-year-old car she still drives today. But it’s the Ford that holds a special place in her heart. It’s the car she drove for many years in Hutchinson’s parades. Source: www.hutchnews.com
