GM extending Chevy Equinox production at Canadian plant - Lima Ohio

DETROIT — General Motors announced Wednesday it will invest $9. 1 million to extend production of the popular Chevrolet Equinox crossover on an auxiliary line in Oshawa, Ontario, saving about 700 jobs at the plant. ” Established in 2010, it is a setup whereby CAMI’s body shop builds more units of the Equinox than the plant can paint and assemble. The auxiliary line in Oshawa also makes older versions of the Chevrolet Impala. Part of the investment announced Wednesday will go toward making some changes to the body shop at the CAMI plant, which also makes the GMC Terrain. “This new investment represents a very effective way for us to meet strong demand for the Chevrolet Equinox and it’s positive news for our community,” Carlisle said in a release. The Oshawa complex as of late has received more bad news than good, with GM’s decision to end production of the current-generation Chevrolet Camaro in November. The next-generation Camaro will be built in Michigan and the move will result in the loss of 1,000 jobs in Oshawa, but GM has said retirement incentive programs will be used to try to avert layoffs. The Oshawa plant also makes the Buick Regal, the current-model Impala and the Cadillac XTS. Source: limaohio.com
