General Motors Recall 15031 For 2011-212 Chevrolet Malibus - ChicagoNow (blog)

For owners of the seventh generation Chevrolet Malibu (2008-2012), a new recall was just mailed out to owners this last week. I personally own a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu LT1 and this is its third recall (and all in the last two years), and this recall is for seat belts. Per Chevrolet " The flexible steel cable that connects the safety belt to the vehicle at the outside of the outboard seating positions can fatigue and separate over time as a result of occupant movement in the seat. In certain seating positions, the seat belt's flexible steel bale (or "tensioner cable), can be locate in a forward position allowing the occupant to sit on top of it while entering the vehicle. As for the repair here's what Chevrolet states they will do "Parts to repair your vehicle are not currently available, but when parts are available, your Chevrolet dealer will replace the front outboard lap anchor mounting bracket to relocate the... Chevrolet also sent an additional sheet of instructional sheet "Safety Belt Cable Sleeve Inspection Procedure For Recall 15031", it has excellent pictures to check and see if your safety cables are worn to see any cuts or cracks.
