Enjoying the ride - hngnews.com

When I went into business as co-owner of the Times-Tribune, we became a two car family. My car was a pickup truck or van for business and Molly’s car was a station wagon or sedan for family use. We bought cars from local dealerships: Grinde Motors, Pulsfus-Johnson Chevrolet (both DeForest), Bell Ford, Arlington and Johnson Sales, Highway 51. In the1980s most of the Madison auto dealerships located their businesses on East Washington Avenue. One day in 1982 I was driving past Don Miller Dodge on East Washington when I spotted a new Dodge 600 convertible sitting on the showroom floor. That night I took Molly into see this white car with red vinyl interior and we took a test drive. I had never before made a deal on a car the first day I saw it, nor have I ever done that since that day in 1982. That Dodge was one of the best cars I have owned. It was driven all over the mid-west on family vacations and we spent our last family vacation driving it to Toronto, Canada and back. On the return trip from Toronto we started back in the morning and drove straight through, non-stop to DeForest, arriving about two or three o’clock the next morning. 2 liter, 4-cylinder engine was perfect for this car. The performance was equal if not better than some of the V-8 engines that we had in other cars and the gas mileage was far better. Source: www.hngnews.com
