The driver who crashed early Tuesday into Porters' Pub narrowly missed two people standing outside and fled the scene before being taken into custody outside his home, court records say. Easton Patrolman Kevin Vanhorn saw a silver 1994 Chevrolet Sportvan crash into the West Ward bar around closing time while patrons were standing out front, records say. No one was injured, but the front wall and a window of Porters' Pub were significantly damaged, records say. Vanhorn activated his lights and sirens but the driver of the van, 39-year-old Niman Gjevukaj, backed out of the building and off the sidewalk before fleeing west on Wood Avenue and north on North Eighth Street, records say. Gjevukaj stopped the van on Sassafras Street, got out and ran east into the yard of his residence in the 700 block of Sassafras Street, police said. He tried to conceal himself along a fence covered in weeds and other plants, but police took him into custody, records say. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Joseph Barner on two felony counts of aggravated assault for nearly injuring Nicole Diana and Loni Locascio, who were standing outside the pub, records say.
