Albemarle Co. Police Investigate Fatal Car Accident - NBC 29 News

Their cars crashed into one another shortly after 8 a. m. Monday along Barracks/Garth Road in Albemarle County, just east of Foxfield Track. Police say 55 year-old Andrew Blackwell Middleditch was turning left onto a farm in his GMC Yukon. That's when officers say 78 year-old Lonnie Wycliffe Branham tried to pass him on the left. The cars crashed, sending Branham's 1990 Chevy Lumina into a ditch. Albemarle Co. Police Spokesperson Carter Johnson says this is the third fatal crash of 2015. The two-vehicle crash took place at 8:12 am in the 2900 block of Barracks Road near the entrance of Haffner Farm. A 2013 GMC Yukon and a 1990 Chevy Lumina were both traveling east bound in a legal passing zone. At the same time, the 1990 Chevy Lumina was attempted to pass the Yukon. The vehicles collided and the 1990 Chevy Lumina overturned. The driver of the Chevy Lumina, Lonnie Wycliffe Branham, died at the scene.
