Salem High School remembers Savanna Roney - The Salem News

This year has been full of trials for the Roney family. Two months previous, Savanna’s father, John Roney, passed away June 15 of this year. Thursday marked only the second day of the 2015-2016 school year at Salem High School. Smith served as Roney’s principal last year when she was a sophomore. Thursday was only the second day on the job for new high school principal Marty Anderson. “Once we heard the news our administrative and counselor staff met to make a plan,” Anderson said. We also did our best to provide a normal day for other students who didn’t have that need, to maintain a learning environment. I know they were all exhausted by the end of the day, I know it really didn’t hit many of them until that night. This is the second year in a row Salem High School has endured a tragedy at the commencement of classes. Last year, Sarah J. Batstone and Zoe Myers both lost their lives the first week of school, Batstone in a car accident and Myers to suicide. Source: www.thesalemnewsonline.com
