Sioux City ordered to remove speed cameras from I-29 - Sioux City Journal

SIOUX CITY | The Iowa Department of Transportation has ordered the city of Sioux City to remove mobile speed cameras from Interstate 29. Three red-light cameras at two intersections also must be removed. The IDOT's evaluation of the cameras, sent to the city Tuesday, showed that not all cameras led to a reduction of crashes, the city's main justification for installing them. In addition to the I-29 speed cameras, both red-light cameras at the intersection of Lewis Boulevard and Outer Drive must be removed. Gent said the city may apply under the IDOT's automated traffic enforcement camera guidelines for a justification review to replace the camera at that intersection. Red-light cameras at Gordon Drive and Fairmount Street and Gordon Drive and South Palmetto Street may remain because crashes at those intersections have decreased since the cameras were activated. Assistant City Attorney Justin Vondrak said the city was disappointed with the IDOT's ruling. The city's other six red-light cameras were not addressed in the report because they are on city streets and not subject to IDOT guidelines.
