Should You Buy? Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition - The Killeen Daily Herald (blog)

Not only is it a series of excellent action games, it’s renowned for being charmingly over-the-top, if that’s not an oxymoron. Originally released in 2008, this game takes place in a town occupied by a religious cult which worships Dante’s demon father as a god. You play Nero, a 16-year-old with some demonic blood himself, who initially pursues Dante before shifting priority to the more conventional video game plot device of a kidnapped girlfriend. The biggest difference is that you can now play levels as Trish, Dante’s demon-in-disguise partner. Lady, a fellow demon hunter. and Vergil, Dante’s presumed-dead twin brother. While they could have reskinned the two playable characters and called it a day, they instead threw together some cutscenes to give some reasonable explanation of why the characters are there. Each of the characters has their own gameplay style, as well. It’s amazing how much effort went into making what are essentially bonus characters unique and fun to play in their own way. Unfortunately, playing as these characters means playing the same levels over and over. There are precious few of those to begin with, and if you’ve played the story mode you’ll have already played them twice: Once as Nero, and once as Dante. Source: kdhnews.com
