Teddy Speeney, who will be a sophomore student at Connellsville Area High School at the start of the 2015-16 school year, created a Facebook group, “Connellsville Students Against Teacher Layoffs,” to draw attention to a board decision on May 26... “I feel it’s necessary that we keep our teachers,” Speeney said. Speeney and other students will attend the school board meeting at 7 p. m. on Wednesday to speak out for the teachers. The furloughed teachers will also introduce themselves to the board on Wednesday to show the faces behind who have been affected by the layoff letters, which have already been distributed, according to Karen Marko, Director of Human Resources for... “In my one class, there are already 27 students in it. That’s quite a few students for one teacher to handle. Speeney spearheaded the campaign at the high school, while students Bobby McLuckey, Bailee Hiles and Kendal McCutchon are rallying students at the middle school to come to the aid of the teachers. Out of the 180 days of the school year, I don’t regret coming one day, because every day I go to that school, I’m there with my family.
