OCEAN SPRINGS, Mississippi -- A 2008 Chevrolet Suburban found submerged in Ocean Springs Harbor Tuesday morning was reported stolen in Harrison County in 2009, officials learned late Tuesday afternoon. The crew used a track hoe to pull the vehicle out of the water onto a barge and later a crane from J. E. Borries construction was brought to the harbor to lift the vehicle off the barge and onto land. Numerous law enforcement officials were on hand as the SUV was lowered to the ground and were able to determine the vehicle's make, model, year of manufacture and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) from the manufacturer's label along the side of... The Ocean Springs Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to pry open the passenger door -- providing relief to both law enforcement and onlookers when they determined no human remains were inside. Ray Bates of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said as the vehicle was still being examined a check of both the tag number and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) had turned up nothing. Bates did say a dispatcher had a couple of leads on a possible owner on which they would follow up.
