Police offer tips on how to deal with a carjacking - KSLA-TV

The person responsible for a carjacking in Shreveport is still on the run, 24 hours after police say the crime was committed. While police search for the carjacker, they are offering tips for those who may fall victim to a carjacking, though police say that type of crime is rare in Shreveport. "Most of the time we would urge compliance, but in that same breath, there are times that it won't be possible or appropriate," said Shreveport Police spokesman Bill Goodin. Make sure you are taking those extra few seconds to look around and see what's going on around you," said Goodin. The state department released a pamphlet in 2002 that it titled, "Carjacking, don't be a victim". It explained if you are being carjacked, there are two options: to resist the carjacker or to give up the vehicle freely. The victim told police he was on his way to work at the post office when a dark colored Chevy TrailBlazer ran into the back of his Chevy Tahoe. The victim complied and the man drove off in the victim's Tahoe. Police say a patrol officer was nearby when the call came in and was able to spot the stolen Tahoe. Source: www.ksla.com
