2015 NHRA: Troy Coughlin Pre-Race Notes: Chevrolet Performance US Nationals - PaddockTalk

Coughlin enters the U. S. Nationals ranked second in the Pro Mod standings, just five points out of first place. At the most recent NHRA Pro Mod event in Norwalk, Ohio, Coughlin qualified in the No. 16 spot but reached the final round with wins over Rickie Smith, Khalid alBalooshi, and son Troy Jr. Only a loss to Mike Janis in the final prevented a storybook... Coughlin won his first NHRA national event title at the U. S. Nationals in 1991 when he drove his Pro Stock-style Olds to the win in Super Gas. Coughlin is one of just seven Pro Mod racers who have qualified for all six events contested this season. At the 2014 U. S. Nationals, Coughlin qualified No. 6 in the Pro Mod field and defeated Mike Janis and Mike Knowles before losing a close race to Rickie Smith in the semifinals. Coughlin's first Pro Mod victory came in 2005 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in New Jersey when he drove his supercharged Mustang to a win over Zack Barklage in the final round. Before switching to Pro Mod, Coughlin enjoyed success in the NHRA Pro Stock class, recording two wins in 12 final-round appearances. All told, Coughlin has 10 NHRA national event wins in 24 final-round appearances in Pro Mod, Pro Stock, and Super Gas competition. Source: paddocktalk.com
