Mobile Man Steals Corvette, Leads Police on Wild Joyride - WKRG

We see it in movies and on television — a stolen Corvette leading police on a daring high-speed-chase — and we wonder if anyone’s actually crazy enough to try something like that in real life. Police say 44-year-old Matthew Piele stole a silver 2010 Chevrolet Corvette from the lot at Mercedes of Mobile, a luxury dealership on Dauphin Street, by leaving “false information. ” This happened right in the middle of the day, with officers learning the vehicle was taken around 12:30pm. Piele and the stolen Corvette would turn up in Biloxi, where local officers spotted the stolen vehicle. Piele would lead police on a high-speed joyride through Biloxi over the course of 20 miles, driving on the wrong side of the road, illegally passing through traffic lights, and endangering the lives of other drivers. In Mobile County, police say he faces charges of first-degree theft of property and first-degree receiving stolen property. Source: wkrg.com
