Corvette lovers show off their cars at Clarkston show - Detroit Free Press

Ray Miller was 13 in 1970 when he spent $500 of his own money to buy a 1959 Corvette. It was his first Corvette and it was in bad shape, with a rusted frame, an engine that didn’t run and a damaged body. Today, that red and white car is in pristine shape and turning heads at the America’s Corvette Club’s annual Corvette show in Clarkston. “I’ve owned probably a dozen Corvettes, but I always kept this one,” said Miller. “It was my first Corvette. Today’s show drew Corvette owners from all over Michigan — and some from out of state. It’s the 15th year the club has held the show, and while early rain kept attendance light in the morning, a number of enthusiasts came out to check out the Corvettes on display. Richard Heldenbrand, president of the club, said many of those showing their cars have been lifetime Corvette lovers. Terry Bird of Belleville, a member of the club, drove to the event in his 2013 Corvette. The show cars — those eligible for an award — were grouped by era, with the older models on display near the front of Bowman Chevrolet on Dixie Highway, and the newer models near the back. A DJ spun a lot of oldies, including the apt “Little Red Corvette” by Prince. Source: www.freep.com
