Farmington squad cars get a new look - Farmington Independent

Farmington police are slowly moving away from the Ford Taurus sedans they have used in recent years to a fleet of Chevy Tahoe squad cars. The move has several benefits, Farmington police chief Brian Lindquist said. For one, the Tahoes are $3,000 to $4,000 cheaper than the Tauruses. Lindquist also expects them to have a higher resale value once they’ve outlived their usefulness as squad cars. That can be a significant benefit when you consider the load a squad car has to carry. Because the entire interior of the Tahoe is climate-controlled, police officers can carry oxygen tanks year round without worrying about it getting cold during the winter. Squad cars carry flotation devices for water rescues and a tool to operate fire hydrants. With the smaller squad cars, someone would have to carry that equipment separately from the police station when it was needed. The police department bought its first Tahoe in 2008 for its vehicle inspection program. The department has three 2015 Tahoes. Lindquist expects to replace the rest of the department’s Taurus squad cars with SUVs as they are taken out of service. Source: www.farmingtonindependent.com
