Top executives at the prominent development firm Gerding Edlen are suing two contractor and a supplier over peeling window film at their high-end Indigo at Twelve West apartment tower. Building owner 12W RPO LLC, a company controlled by Gerding Edlen executives Mark Edlen and Kelly Saito, is suing two contractors, Hoffman Construction Co. and Benson Industries of Portland, and Minnesota windowmaker Viracon Inc. It claims the sun-blocking film on the windows, designed to improve the LEED Platinum-certified buildings' energy efficiency as well as prevent sun damage and protect residents' privacy, is peeling and cracking. The lawsuit comes a day after the building's owners sued another supplier over parts used in the building's plumbing system, which they say are disintegrating and sending bits of residue into its drinking water. The owners of the building — where a studio apartment rents for $2,295 a month and penthouses go for more than $6,000 a month — are already giving renters a 10 percent rent discount until the plumbing repairs are completed, as well as bottled...
