Wilson Central coach Bond takes Oakland position - Lebanon Democrat

As a player and assistant coach at Lebanon, Troy Bond saw the Blue Devils’ rivalry with Oakland at its peak. Now, Bond, the only boys’ basketball coach Wilson Central has had since its 2001 opening, will be taking over the Patriots program. “We had a great rivalry with Oakland with the program at Lebanon, some great battles, no doubt,” said Bond, who will replace Mike Wright, who resigned after six seasons, the most recent of which was an 18-10 campaign. I had a great understanding of where the program had been, from (former coaches) Dickie Thomas to Randy King. “We wanted someone who had been successful, had high energy and had a background in building a program,” Spurlock said. “When we interviewed him we saw he’s going to be high energy, is going to get the kids out to play and is going t be a tireless worker. His most recent team struggled to 5-20 after losing virtually all of the playing rotation from a state tournament team the season before. The Wildcats went to four state tournaments, with the 2004 team reaching the semifinals, tying the 2000 Lebanon team for the furthest advancement by a Wilson County Class AAA boys’ team in the state, and the furthest for any county boys' team...
