Police: After northeast Modesto search, man who fled traffic stop surrenders - Modesto Bee

A parolee at large who police say was armed with a gun, fled a traffic stop and later was found holed up at a residence near Coffee Road in Modesto surrendered to police late Tuesday afternoon. James Brooks, 36, was taken into custody a few minutes after police discovered he was inside a house on Coffee Villa Drive, a few blocks from where he was pulled over by officers. According to Heather Graves, spokeswoman for the Modesto Police Department, officers spotted Brooks in a vehicle on Coffee Road just north of Rumble Road. About 90 minutes later, officers discovered that he had entered a residence in the 1300 block of Coffee Villa, a few blocks northeast of Coffee and Rumble.
