Beckman has been one of the hottest drivers in motor sports this summer, winning three of four NHRA Funny Car events, blasting NHRA records and pushing toward the top of the Funny Car point standings as the championship run approaches. “I think this is one of those cases where hard work and preparation meet and produce this kind of fruit,” Beckman told USA TODAY Sports. We licked our wounds, dragged the car over to Phoenix, tested and then lost in the first round (in the second race of the year). The slow start was partially because of a new combination — Beckman and new crew chief Jimmy Prock, who joined Don Schumacher Racing after a long run with veteran John Force’s team. Prock brought strong credentials, but he and Beckman staggered out of the gate. They were together for the final two races of last season, and Beckman lost in the first round of each event before stumbling in the 2015 opener. “The whole time I didn’t feel a sense of desperation, panic or depression,” said Beckman, who calls Prock a mad scientist. Wins followed in Topeka in May and Norwalk, Ohio, in July before Beckman put together. Source: www.usatoday.com
