Pedestrian hit, killed on U.S. 301 near Robeson County - Fayetteville Observer

"He was very upset, very shaken," Bethea said today. Zared Hurley, 18, of Parkton, was walking just inside Cumberland County about 11:15 p. m. when he was struck by a northbound 2007 Dodge Charger driven by 26-year-old Jermaine Tammerine of Fayetteville. That stretch of the two-lane road near N. C. 71 is not lighted, Bethea said, and it was likely Tammerine didn't see Hurley until it was too late. A witness called 911 and Hurley was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he later died, Bethea said. Tammerine left and drove to the home of family and friends in Shannon, Bethea said. Family members contacted the Highway Patrol and Bethea said he talked with Tammerine this morning. Bethea said Hurley was at fault for walking in the roadway. But Tammerine did leave the scene, Bethea said. Source: www.fayobserver.com
