Teen leads 130 mph Hawkins County chase - Kingsport Times News

ROGERSVILLE — A Hamblen County teen who allegedly struck two vehicles to escape a traffic stop and then led police on a 130 mph chase from Rogersville to Surgoinsville is facing a long list of charges. Cody James Russell, 18, 328 Carriger Street, Morristown, was driving a 2005 Acura RSX Wednesday shortly before 6 p. m. when he allegedly ran a stop sign in Rogersville turning from 1st Street onto Scenic Drive. Rogersville Police Department Officer Chris Funk reportedly observed the incident, activated his blue lights in front of the Acura, and stepped from his patrol car to conduct a traffic stop. As Funk was walking toward the Acura, however, the vehicle allegedly pulled away in reverse and struck a pickup parked at the Medical Center on Main Street. “The suspect then fled just inches by me, slid on the ice, and struck a 1992 black Dodge Stealth. Rogersville police, the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol pursued Russell east toward Surgoinsville as Russell allegedly reached speeds of 130 mph. But, Surgoinsville Police Department Officer Zachary England was waiting in an unmarked patrol vehicle when the Acura passed the Zion Hill Road intersection. Source: www.timesnews.net
