Roanoke cleaning up after flooding - WANE

The flash flooding left behind a foot of water in downtown Roanoke. “I got the phone call around 1:30 last night saying that Roanoke is flooding and you might want to come down and evaluate, but it was kind of already too late,” Owner of Roanoke Antiques Emporium and Deco Illusions Rick Fischer said. “By the time I got here, the water was already receded out of the streets and everything, but it left behind its wake. It went up fast and down fast, so now it’s just left behind a lot of cleaning. Fischer said his business initially had a couple of inches of water inside it, but things are drying out now. “A lot of the businesses did get some water damage and so now, we’re just in a mass scramble of cleaning, trying to get things back to normal. We’ve got a good spirit in town. Perry Collins owns Roanoke Merchandise and said his store only had minimal damage. Collins said it’s times like this where the community comes together and the town helps everyone get back on their feet. Many neighbors and businesses said they haven’t seen flooding like this in nearly 30 years. That includes Rex Ottinger, who started Rex’s Barber Shop in Roanoke 52 years ago. Source: wane.com
