Column: Here's why we allowed the Silverdome pre-Cruise RoadKill event - The Oakland Press

The one-day race event, otherwise known as a “pop up” event , was proposed and planned as a grand start to the Dream Cruise. It is also noteworthy, the event was sponsored by legendary automotive magazine, Motor Trend which touts one of the largest readerships in the world — Chrysler/Dodge — as well as new cultural icons known as “Fast & Loud,” ”Gas Monkey,” and “YouTube. So, what do we do. In my opening comments on July 22, I reminded everyone in attendance at City Hall (and those who watched on TV), the petition was not a referendum on the Silverdome, or its condition, or its owner, rather it was Special Meeting... Will we approve a “one day” pop up event, sponsored by Motor Trend, Chrysler/Dodge (an Auburn Hills neighbor who currently leases space at the Silverdome), who collectively presented a viable plan, procured contracts, was willing and able to... In some cases, cars like yours and cars like mine, but most specifically, cars like those registered for the Dream Cruise.
