An 8-year-old girl was hospitalized with non life threatening injuries after she was riding a bicycle and collided with a car on East Blancke Street Tuesday night. Police said a red 2000 Dodge Intrepid, driven by an 83-year-old man, was traveling west on East Blancke Street near the intersection with Washington Avenue when the girl rode south, across the street into the vehicle’s path. Members of the Linden Police Traffic Bureau Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Councilman Peter Brown Jr. who represents the third ward where the accident occurred, said he put in a request Wednesday morning to have speed bumps installed when bids go out this fall to repave the entire length of East Blancke Street. Brown, who is heavily focused on pedestrian and driver safety, said he’s looking to have one or two speed bumps installed along the roadway, which is often used by drivers cutting through other congested streets in the city. East Blancke Street is a side street to Wood Avenue, a main road in the city. Brown is looking to get all the side streets along Wood Avenue paved. “People speed from one stop sign (on East Blancke Street) to the other. Source: www.mycentraljersey.com
