Family of fatal hit and run victim: 'Suspect was his best friend's mom' - KLTV
The brother of a five year old who was killed after a fatal hit and run on Sunday says the suspect in custody was his best friend's mother. Kilgore police arrested Kyrsten McCarty, 25, on Monday in connection with a crash on Florence Street in Kilgore that killed Robert Jack Moorhead. Moorhead's family said that McCarty knew Moorhead well, making it hard for them to understand why she left him lying in the street. "We could have closure if she would have stayed," said Jackie Womack, Moorhead's grandmother. Womack said McCarty lived just down the street from where Moorhead lived and the children of the families played together. "[McCarty] was [Moorhead's brother Dustin's] best friend's mom," said Womack. Womack said Vallance recognized McCarty as the driver, and tried to tell that to police. After examining McCarty's 2006 Dodge Caravan on Monday, police seized the vehicle and arrested McCarty. "[Police] found blood underneath her van and the DNA matched our family," said Womack.
