2015 prep kickoff: State football notes - Topeka Capital Journal

Coming off a 9-2 season, BLUE VALLEY (Eastern Kansas) figures to find itself in its customary position of being one of the top challengers in the east bracket with a number of key returners back. BLUE VALLEY NORTH (Eastern Kansas) came on strong late, winning two of its last four games in Andy Sims’ first year as coach. The season was a big step after winning just once in the two previous years, but expectations for Year 2 will be much higher after graduating only two starters and six lettermen. Senior quarterback Joey Dolan had a breakout year, throwing for 2,007 yards and 16 TDs and has his two favorite targets back in receiver Alex Blake (732 yards, 8 TDs) and Josh Pederson (425 yards, 4 TDs) as well as all five guys up front. After getting into a number of shootouts last year, BLUE VALLEY NORTHWEST (Eastern Kansas) will have to turn to a new arsenal of weapons this season. Graduation claimed All-6A and record-setting receiver Dalton Schoen as well as standout QB Zack Zegunis and RB Miles Alexander, leaving 11th-year coach Mike Zegunis plenty of re-tooling with his offense. The Huskies were 5-4 last year, missing out on the playoffs with a 20-12 loss to Blue Valley in the season finale. Source: cjonline.com
