New Orleans auctions 98 abandoned autos; average price $968 - NOLA.com

The city of New Orleans held its third auction of abandoned vehicles this year on Tuesday (July 7) at the Almonaster Auto Pound, selling off nearly 100 vehicles to buyers onsite and online. Tuesday's sale will add another $94,825 based on the winning bids for the 98 vehicles placed on the auction block. The winning bids ranged from a low of $225 -- for a 1995 Dodge Avenger as well as a 1996 Ford Taurus -- to $5,800 for a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. Onsite buyers placed 53 of the winning bids, and 45 came from online bidders. The city has conducted online abandoned vehicle auctions since 2009, with Brown's Auction and Realty Co. in Lafayette handling Tuesday's event. With many participants pre-bidding on items, nearly all of the vehicles sold within minutes of being put on the auction block. Source: www.nola.com
