John Fosberg, operator of the Gig Harbor Beer Festival held every May, will officially open his new brewery, Gig Harbor Brewing Co. , Saturday on South Tacoma Way, in a mostly industrial area. So, exactly why is a brewery named after Gig Harbor opening in Tacoma. Said Fosberg in an email, “After an exhaustive nine-month search in Gig Harbor, we reluctantly started looking outside the Harbor for brewing space. Gig Harbor, he noted, is heavy on retail spaces, but not warehouse space with the kind of sewer access his brewery operation requires. So to Tacoma he headed, a town already home to a burgeoning craft beer community that continues to grow with at least two brewery openings anticipated for 2015. The 2,500-square-feet building Fosberg secured is outfitted with three fermenters with... The head brewer is Bethany Carlsen, a brewer with a resume rooted in South Sound beer. She previously was a head brewer with Big Horn Brewery, operated at Ram Restaurants.
