Ned left the SUV one last time to walk around and make sure all was ready. The driver’s door was locked, as was every door and window, he said in an email. “We looked for a ‘Slim Jim’ among the campers, but no one had one,” Ned Penitsch said. Merc, an 8-month-old, 13-pound cat, watched with interest from inside the truck, which gave Ned an idea. He began tapping his finger on the passenger door glass at the lower front of the window, and Merc walked toward the passenger door arm rest. “As Merc stepped on the arm rest, he stepped right onto the button which unlocks the door,” Penitsch wrote.
