Anthrax scare in June bank heist brings federal charges - WZZM

(WZZM) – A Van Buren County man was arraigned Tuesday on federal bank robbery charges stemming from two southwest Michigan heists that netted nearly $62,000 and involved an anthrax scare that closed M-37 in Battle Creek. Douglas Scott Wolthuis, 50, is charged with an April 22 hold-up in Kalamazoo County and a June 9 robbery in Battle Creek. A suspect entered the branch on Stadium Drive and told employees he had a bomb, federal court records show. He got away with $60,000. About seven weeks later, authorities say a suspect entered Chase Bank in Battle Creek's Fort Custer Industrial Park and told employees he was carrying anthrax, court records show.
