Jaguar aims to pounce on German trio in NZ with new XE - Stuff.co.nz

The British car is a brand-new Jaguar XE, which will go head-to-head against the German trio of the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 in what promises to be an exciting contest in the luxury sector. Importer Jaguar New Zealand (JNZ) reckons the XE - the first compact sedan produced by Jaguar since the X-Type in 2009 - has the goods to emerge the winner. "There's a certain German brand that claims to build the ultimate driving machines," said national sales manager Helen Sunley, referring to BMW. Sunley admitted it has been "a long time between drinks" since Jaguar marketed its last medium-sized sedan. "Now, the good news is this new Jaguar delivers everything that everyone from the dealer to the customer wants - design, performance, and true driveability. Jaguar NZ general manager Paul Ricketts said arrival of the XE will transform the brand from being solely a distributor of large luxury sedans and sports vehicles. "The new model will more than double the new vehicle segment size we compete in," he said. "We believe the XE will quickly establish itself as the best and most dynamic vehicle in the compact executive class, and that as a result we will sell more cars in that segment than anything else. Renault and Daimler look to future material use - Plastics News

The Renault Eolab concept hybrid drive car was the focus of a paper on hot-stamped thermoplastic composites (TPC) for body-in-white applications, at the VDI Plastics in Automotive Engineering conference in Mannheim, Germany, in March. 0 litre/100km fuel consumption, 22 g/km CO2 emissions and 60km electric drive range, Eolab Concept weighs 955kg, of which 145kg for the Z. E: (zero emissions) hybrid drive system. Renault says 400kg lower weight than a Clio IV hatchback is due to the material mix used, including a 4. 5kg magnesium roof and a high strength steel front structure. The TPC rear floor pan saves 3. 2kg over sheet steel. the central floor pan, being 33% lighter than sheet steel, saves 16. 5kg or 1. 65g/km CO2 emission. The floor pans use DuPont’s Vizilon TPC materials, a material solution saving 25kg overall in the Eolab concept when applied to floor pan, lower and upper windshield cross-members and B-pillars. Liraut and Bender talked of the high degree of TPC floor pan part integration having reduced the number of parts by more than 50%. They stressed the TPC pan’s ability to withstand. Mercedes-Benz R-Class is Getting Prepared for China - BenzInsider

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class is staging a comeback. According to CNBC, the assembly of the R-Class recently commenced at the AM General assembly plant located in Mishakawa, Indiana. It was the same facility that built the Hummer H2 from 2002 to 2009. Based on the source, Mercedes got into a deal with AM General that involved moving the production of the R-Class into the latter’s facility. The reason for the move of Mercedes is to let its Vance, Alabama plant to focus on the production of the more in-demand units of the brand. The decision to transfer the assembly of the R-Class to another location also had something to do with the foreseen supply problems in the popular models like the C-Class and GLE Coupe. In the latest sales report of Mercedes , its luxury vehicles are still enjoying a huge demand from wealthy Chinese customers.
