Foothills snags former NFL, ASU assistant as new head coach - TriValley Central

As the summer days went on, San Tan Foothills High School remained without a football coach. But after Rodger Schenks left the program to join American Leadership Academy, that spot remained vacant for longer than expected. Sanders said he was ready to take a job head coaching a European football team in Amsterdam when he received a call from Jim Jones, the head coach of Mesquite, saying he had recommended Sanders when Foothills Principal Bob Edwards called asking... Sanders then called Edwards on his cell phone, set up a meeting for Wednesday, July 1, and was hired by the following Monday. First, he joined the newly formed USFL team Los Angeles Express until the team folded in 1985. He then joined the Houston Oilers (which has since become the Tennessee Titans) as a tight ends coach. He joined Arizona State when Todd Graham was hired in 2012. Graham had been recruiting Sanders’ top player, DJ Foster, to ASU. “Graham told me, ‘If you ever get tired of winning state championships, come on over,’” Sanders said. He was primarily put in charge of getting the defensive schemes ready for ASU’s big game against Arizona, saying he would receive the game ball for the win. “High school football is the most pure sport left, I believe. CAC tax rate: Shope says hike caught him off guard - TriValley Central

“I was disappointed,” Shope said of the 45 percent tax increase that was approved in May by the college’s Governing Board but later modified to a 20 percent increase. During budget negotiations in March, Shope said he made the argument on the House floor that he didn’t believe Pinal County is in the same situation as Maricopa and Pima counties when it comes to the tax base. At the time, community college districts in Pima, Maricopa and Pinal counties were facing an elimination of all state funding. In the end, Pima and Maricopa community colleges saw all of their funding cut, while Shope and some colleagues were able to restore roughly $1 million to CAC. As a business owner, it’s a definite impact on my business,” said Shope, who along with his family owns Shope’s IGA in Coolidge. CAC has stated a number of reasons for the tax increase including the need for renovations at the Signal Peak Campus, which is expected to cost around $45 million, along with updating computer software that hasn’t changed in 25 years.
