Men trots att de var fullt fungerande – så beslöt Mercedes att aldrig marknadsintroducera sin sportbil. 1972 byttes V8:an ut mot dubbla wankelmotorer, men 1976 så återgick man till V8 efter det att Chevrolet lagt ner planerarna på att utveckla rotormotorer. 76 var även året då projektet fick namnet Aerovette och 1980 fick modellen grönt ljus för produktion. TVR Cerbera Speed 12 Redan när modellen först visades som koncept var den ”extra allt” under huven satt det en 7,7-liters V12 och när den 1998 skulle ut i produktion var det som en ren racerbil. Dock innebar nya kravspecifikationer för GT-klassen att Speed 12 inte platsade – vilket fick TVR att snabbt ställa om för att göra bilen gatlaglig. Till dess att dåvarande ägaren av TVR, Peter Wheeler, satte sig bakom ratten på den slutgiltiga produkten.
