Infant killed in double fatality crash yesterday in western Wyoming - County 10

The crash occurred approximately six miles south of Thayne, Wyoming on US Highway 89 near mile post 94 at 4:00 p. m. Afton, Wyoming residents Decia C. Wright, 35 years old, and five month old Olivia R. Currier both sustained fatal injuries from... Decia Wright was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on US 89 when the Jeep drifted into the southbound lane of travel. A southbound 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, driven by 25 year old Kyle Mclain, also of Afton, observed the Jeep enter his lane and attempted to avoid a crash. Despite Mclain’s efforts to avoid the crash, a head-on collision between the two vehicles ensued. Olivia Currier was properly seated in a child restraint in the Jeep at the time of the crash. Inattentive driving is being investigated in this crash that marked the 97th and 98th highway fatalities in Wyoming for 2015. There were 99 fatalities during this same time period in 2014. However, for a few Jeep Grand Cherokee owners, that hasn’t been the case. After receiving 14 complaints, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is opening an investigation into 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee models for rolling away when in Park. In addition to the complaints, the NHTSA reports also claim there have been five reports of crashes and three injury incidents. The newer-model Grand Cherokees have an electronic shifter, rather than a conventional mechanical shifter with clearly defined shift detents. Last month, FCA and NHTSA agreed to a record $105 million civil penalty settlement, mainly stemming from the delay in repairs on the massive Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee recall and their fuel tank vulnerability in a severe rear-impact collision. The two were severely injured when the Ford F250 they were traveling in hit a... Ocala Fire Rescue responded around 4:49 a. m. to the 3600 block of SW 20th Street in Ocala. The first victim was extracted one hour 50 minutes later while the second victim was extracted two hours 39 minutes after arriving on scene. on July 11, 2011, Nesbitt was driving his 2000 Jeep Wrangler north on U. S. 301. A 2005 Mack tractor-trailer was traveling east on County Road 318. The vehicles crashed at the intersection. Though Michael Curmutt, the truck driver, was not injured, the same couldn’t be said for Nesbitt. The Jeep’s steering wheel was close to his chest and sections of the front pushed up against his legs. To free Nesbitt, Marion County Fire Rescue firefighters had to be careful. Some firefighters entered through the back and held his neck straight while others cut around him. Experts talk about “the golden hour” --- that 60-minute span when it’s critical to have the patient removed from the vehicle and taken to the operating room.
