Oswego Village Board members voted to approve plans for the construction of a Starbuck’s coffee shop on U. S. Route 34 near Douglas Road. Craig Weber, village president, said he was sure the Starbucks would be a very expensive building to construct, but questioned the architectural design. Encouraged by the applause from a large crowd of their friends and neighbors, six Oswego residents told village officials they didn’t want a McDonald’s restaurant built near East View Elementary School. Addressing village officials during a town meeting in Lakeview Park, the residents expressed concern the proposed fast food restaurant, if built on Ill. Route 71 near U. S. Route 34, would further compound traffic problems on the two highways, become a teen hangout and have a detrimental impact on the nearby school. 1995: 20 years ago this month. Both the Montgomery and Oswego village boards voted to ban leaf burning in their respective communities. Oswego Village Board member Don Dahm proposed the board vote to approve a one year moratorium on all residential development. Dahm explained that he believed a moratorium was needed to allow village departments such as police and public works to catch up with their ever increasing workloads and responsibilities.
