Dave Baarstad and Nancy Rohn and their neighbors light up a Ford F600 each holiday season. CORVALLIS — For Dave Baarstad and Nancy Rohn, the holidays officially start two days after Thanksgiving. That’s the way it’s been for the past five years since they started celebrating the lighting of their Ford F600, a former U-Haul delivery truck, that sits outside their house at 810 S. E. Park Ave. “I bet there were at least 50 people there — a lot of neighbors and people we’ve never met,” she said of the Nov. “We had much more fun than any football game,” Rohn said. “And we made sure there was a little rum out there for those who wanted to imbibe,” Rohn said. Rohn, one of many readers who responded to our Mid-Valley Holiday Lights request, operates a violin rental, repair and restoration business out of her home. “I tell them I live on Park Street where the big truck is,” Rohn said. Baarstad likes to fix up cars and trucks. “It was one of Dave’s multiple vehicles,” Rohn said. “Dave’s hobby is restoring cars and trucks, so it’s just kind of fitting that we light up a vehicle. Electric cars finish in top tier of rescheduled Pikes Peak Hill Climb - Torque News

Among the vehicles at this years Pikes Peak International Hill Climb were several electric cars, along with drivers and teams hoping to test electric vehicles with the race to the clouds. The best times overall were Rhys Millen, 9:46. 164 lap time, driving a Hyundai chassis, and Romain Dumas, 9:46. 181 lap time, driving a Porsche chassis. The top electric finisher, Fumio Nutahara, driving the Toyota Motorsports Group EV P002 electric race car. The EV P002 is built on a Radical race car chassis, and has pair of a axial flux electric motors with a top output of 350 kilowatts, with a predicted top speed of 150 miles/hr. Not far behind was Hiroshi Masuoka driving the Mitsubishi i-MiEV Evolution, with a 10:30. 850 lap time, average speed 68. 479 miles/hr, good enough for 8th place. Coming in at 13th place was Elias Anderson, driving the NovaKar to a 11:00. 857 lap time, average speed 65. 370 miles/hr. The NovaKar is based on Jim Novak's F600 race car chassis, it has a 240hp electric motor and weighs 880lbs ready to race.
