Huge profits reported by Ford on Tuesday likely will amplify the UAW’s chorus of “it’s our time” as Detroit’s automakers start talks with the union. It’s pretax operating profit in North America that determines the profit-sharing figure. Remember, Shanks said, for every $1 million of profit, a dollar goes to a worker’s profit-sharing. Through the first half of 2015, pretax operating profit in North America was $3. 85 billion, or about $3,850 per worker, with what is expected to be an even more profitable second half ahead. “It goes without saying that the sacrifices of our membership for nearly a decade have been a driving factor behind the economic rebirth of Ford,” said Jimmy Settles, vice president for the UAW’s Ford department, in a news release. Ford’s global net income of $1. 9 billion for the second quarter beat Wall Street’s expectations.     The Ford F-Series is a series of full-size pickup trucks from Ford which has been sold continuously since 1948. The most popular variant of the F-Series is the F-150. It has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the past 32 years,[1] and the best-selling pick-up for 43 years,[2] and the best selling vehicle in Canada,[3] In the tenth generation of the F-series, the F-250 and F-350 changed body style in 1998 and joined the Super Duty series.

    During the post-World War II era, smaller Canadian villages had access to either a Ford dealer or a Lincoln-Mercury-Meteor dealer, but not both; a Mercury-badged version was sold at Lincoln-Mercury-Meteor dealers there from 1946–68. Other than the grilles, trim, and badging, these pick-ups were identical to their Ford counterparts.

    As of 2015, the Ford F-150 is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, most Caribbean countries (except Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Cuba), Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, the Middle East, Iceland, Nigeria, the Dutch territories of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the British overseas territory of the Cayman Islands whilst the SVT Raptor is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East, Ecuador, Chile and Peru. Both are available in LHD only. In Mexico, the Extended cab versions of the F-150 is called the Ford Lobo, while the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is called the Ford Lobo Raptor.

    The first-generation F-Series pick-up (known as the Ford Bonus-Built) was introduced in 1948 as a replacement for the previous car-based pick-up line introduced in 1942. The F-Series was sold in eight different weight ratings, with pick-up, panel truck, cab-over engine (COE), conventional truck, and school bus chassis body styles.

    Second generation (1953–56)[edit]

    For the 1953 model year, an all-new version of the F-Series made its debut. Increased dimensions, improved engines, and an updated chassis were features of the second generation.

    Additionally, a change to the F-Series naming scheme would remain in place to the present day. The half-ton F-1 became the F-100 (partially influenced by the North American F-100 Super Sabre); the F-2 and F-3 were combined into the F-250 while the F-4 became the F-350. Conventional F-Series trucks were F-500 to F-900; COE chassis were C-Series trucks.

    Third generation (1957–60)[edit]

    Introduced in 1957, the third-generation F-series was a significant modernisation and re-design. Front wings became integrated into the body, and the StyleSide bed continued the smooth lines to the rear of the pick-up.

    The cab-over F-Series was discontinued, having been replaced by the tilt-cab C-Series.

    In 1959, Ford began in-house production of four-wheel drive pick-ups.

    Fourth generation (1961–66)[edit]

    Ford introduced a dramatically new style of pick-up in 1961 with the fourth-generation F-series. Longer and lower than the previous pick-ups, these trucks had increased dimensions and new engine and gearbox choices. Additionally the 1961-1963 models were constructed as a uni-body design with the cab and bed integrated. This proved unpopular and the F-series reverted to a traditional separate cab/bed design in 1964.

    In 1965 the F-series was given a significant mid-cycle redesign. A completely new platform, including the Twin-I-Beam front suspension, was introduced that would be used until 1996 on the F150 and till this day on the F250/F350 4x2. Additionally that year, the Ranger name made its first appearance on a Ford pick-up; previously a base model of the Edsel, it was now used to denote a high-level styling package for F-Series pick-ups.

    Fifth generation (1967–72)[edit] 1972 F-250 Camper Special

    Introduced in 1967, the fifth-generation F-series pick-up was built on the same platform as the 1965 revision of the fourth-generation. Dimensions, and greenhouse glass were increased, engine options expanded, and plusher trim levels became available during the fifth-generation pick-ups production run.

    Suspension components from all 1969 F-Series models are completely inter-changeable.

    A variant of the fifth-generation F-series was produced until 1992 in Brazil for the South American market.

    Sixth generation (1973–79)[edit]

    The sixth-generation F-series was introduced in 1973. This version of the F-series continued to be built on the 1965 fourth-generation's revised platform, but with significant modernizations and refinements. Front disc brakes, increased cabin dimensions, gas tank relocated outside the cab and under the bed, significantly improved heating and air conditioning, full double wall bed construction, increased use of galvanized steel, SuperCab was introduced in the sixth-generation pick-up.

    The FE engine series was discontinued in 1976 after a nearly 20-year run, replaced by the more modern 335 series (Modified) and 385 series engines.

    In 1975, the F-150 was introduced in between the F-100 and the F-250 in order to avoid certain emission control restrictions. For 1978, square headlights replaced the previous models' round ones on higher trim package models, such as Lariat and Ranger, and in 1979 became standard equipment. Also for 1978, the Ford Bronco was redesigned into a variant of the F-series pick-up. 1979 was the last year that the 460 large block engine was available in a half ton truck.

    Seventh generation (1980–86)[edit]

    The 1980 F-Series was redesigned with an all-new chassis and larger body; this was the first ground-up redesign since 1965. The exterior styling of the truck was redone to improve aerodynamics and fuel economy. Medium-duty F-Series (F600-F900) were also redesigned; although they shared the cabin of the smaller pickup trucks, the largest version of F-Series now wore a bonnet with separate front wings (like the L-Series). Medium duty Ford F-Series would carry the 1980-86 interior design until 2000 (though pickups were restyled again in 1987 and 1992), with very subtle changes such as window glass and electronics.

    In a move towards fuel efficiency, Ford dropped the M-Series engines (5.8L, 351M and 6.6L, 400 C.I. V8's) in 1981 and added the 4.2L, 255 C.I. and 5.8L, 351 C.I. Windsor V8 engines from the Panther platform. The 255 V8 was simply a 5.0L, 302 V8 with a smaller bore, built specifically for better fuel economy, but was dropped for the 1982 model year due to being underpowered and having limited demand. For 1982 and 1983, the 3.8L, 232 C.I. Essex V6 was the base engine but was quickly dropped for the 1984 model year. In 1983, Ford added diesel power to the F-Series through a partnership with International Harvester (later Navistar). The 6.9L, 420 C.I. IDI V8 produced similar power output as the gasoline 351 Windsor V8, with the fuel economy of the 4.9L, 300 I6. 1985 was the first year of electronic fuel injection on the 5.0L V8, all other engines following suit in 1988. There was a new "high output" version of the 5.8L Windsor beginning in 1984.

    A noticeable change was made to the F-Series in 1982 as the Ford "Blue Oval" was added to the center of the grill, also the Ranger and Custom trims were no longer available. The Ranger name had been shifted onto the all-new compact pickup developed as a replacement for the Courier. The new trim levels were a no-badge base model (essentially the new Custom), XL, a very rare XLS, and XLT Lariat.

    1983 marked the final year of the F100, making the F150 the lightest pickup available on the market. F100's and F150's were virtually identical with the exception of smaller brakes and a 5x4.5 bolt pattern on the F100 axles, as opposed to 5x5.5 on the F150. F100's over a certain GVWR and/or without power brakes did use the F150 axles. Also, the 1980-83 F100 was never offered with four wheel drive.

    1986 marked the final year that the F150 was available with a 3-speed manual gearbox that shifted via a steering column lever (3-on-the-tree). Incidentally, this was the second-last vehicle in the United States that offered this set up. 1986 was also the last year the Explorer package was available.

    This is the first generation of trucks to incorporate amenities such as power mirrors, power windows, and power door locks.

    Ford F-150 (light-duty type)

    Ford's 1987 F-Series carried over the same body style from the 7th generation, yet sported a new rounded front clip that improved aerodynamics, as well as the softening of body lines around the rear of the bed and fender arches around the wheel wells. The interior was also completely redesigned in 1987. The Custom trim made a comeback for the 8th generation. In 1988, the 4.9L I6, 5.8L V8 and 7.5L, 460 C.I. V8 gained electronic fuel injection. International Navistar also increased the displacement of their 6.9L V8 this year, resulting in the new 7.3L, 444 C.I. IDI V8. This was also the first year of a 5-speed manual overdrive transmission, which included the Mazda M5OD in the F150's and the heavy-duty ZF5 in the F250's and F350's, 4-speed manuals were dropped as standard equipment after 1987, but were available as a customer-ordered option until 1989. In 1989, the C6 3-speed automatic was replaced as the base automatic transmission with the E4OD, a 4-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive unit, though the C6 was still available as an option, mostly in F250's and F350's, until 1997. Heavy-Duty models included F-250s and F-350s (along with F-Super Dutys) that were classified as incomplete vehicles that were produced with no bed, but appeared as Tow Trucks, Box Trucks (notably U-Haul), Flatbed Trucks, Dump Trucks and other models that are known to be incomplete vehicles. These models appear from 1987 to 1997.

    The F-Series underwent another minor cosmetic update for the 1992 model year with an updated front clip focused on increasing its aerodynamics. The update also brought the F-Series in line with the Ranger and Explorer stylistically. The interior was also redesigned at this time. One major interior update included the addition of rear speakers. The XLT Lariat name was shortened to simply XLT in 1992, and Ford's base Custom truck trim became the XL.

    SuperCab models of this generation are distinguished by single (instead of twin) side windows for the rear seat. Dormant since 1987, the FlareSide bed also returned for 1992. Instead of the traditional pickup bed seen before, the new FlareSide borrowed much of its rear bodywork from the dual rear-wheel F-350.

    Ford offered a 75th anniversary package on its 1992 F-series, consisting of a stripe package, an argent colored step bumper, and special 75th anniversary logos.

    In 1995, the medium-duty trucks received their first exterior update since 1980 that integrated the indicators and grille. Also, Ford upgraded the F-Series top trim level with the plusher Eddie Bauer Edition, previously only available on Broncos since 1985. SuperCab models offered new 40/20/40 split bench/bucket seat to replace the previously 50/50 split jump seats.

    All 1996 F150s received mass air flow sensors, replacing the older speed/density set up. 1996 and some late 1995 F-150s also have OBD2, replacing the old OBD1 system. The F250HD and F350, however, would remain unchanged through the 1996 model year.

    E4OD transmission changes[edit]

    The E4OD electronically-controlled transmission with overdrive also underwent several updates during the 1992–1997 model years. For the 1992 year model, the E4OD received four-pinion planet carriers, an updated sun gear, rear case bushings, and a stronger overdrive clutch cylinder snap ring. For the 1994 model year, the transmission received updates to the center support, replacing bushings with ball bearings. A new, stronger four-pinion planet overdrive carrier replaces older three- and four-pinion designs. A revised converter clutch piston was also added in with the 1994 update. 1995 E4OD transmissions received a higher displacement front pump, which helps engage reverse quicker. 1996 was updated to be compatible with OBD2 systems.

    Powerstroke diesel[edit]

    Starting in 1994.5, Ford offered the F-250 and F-350 models not only with gasoline engines, but with new redesigned direct injection turbodiesel engines. The 7.3 liter diesel was manufactured by the International company, also known as Navistar. International upgraded the 7.3 diesel previously used in Ford heavy duty trucks and added a direct-injection fuel system, larger single shot injectors, a turbocharger, and newly designed pushrods. Ford named the new diesel engine the Powerstroke. The Powerstroke brought better performance, power, and towing capacity in Ford trucks. The 7.3 Powerstroke diesel lasted until 2003.5, when it was replaced by the 6.0 Powerstroke. In 1999 an intercooler and new piston rods were included in all Powerstroke diesel engines.

    SVT Lightning[edit]

    The first SVT Lightning truck entered the scene in 1993. It featured a 5.8 L engine with performance GT40 cylinder heads shared with 5.0 Mustang Cobra, cam, pistons, intake shared with the 5.0 H.O. Mustang, headers, dual exhaust, oil cooler and modified engine computer programming. The truck was available with a reprogrammed E4OD automatic transmission with an auxiliary cooler. The rear axle was a limited slip unit with 4.10:1 gearing. Ford added a high-mount third brake light to the rear of 1994 truck cab roofs. More safety-related moves this year included a security package with remote keyless entry and intrusion alarm; also driver airbag was standard on the F150 for the first time.

    Tenth generation (1997–2003)[edit]

    Introduced in late of 1996, the 1997 F-150 was redesigned from the ground up for the first time since 1980. Rounded styling allowed for improved aerodynamics, a larger interior, and improved fuel economy. Sharing a similar V6 engine with the Taurus/Windstar and a V8 engine with the Crown Victoria and Mustang, late 1997 F-150 received an all-new 5.4L engine. To improve rear-seat access, a third door was added to SuperCab models; in 1998, SuperCabs became four doors. For 2001, the SuperCrew crew cab was added; it combined the larger seat of a crew cab with a slightly shortened rear cargo bed.The "Tenth Generation" of the Ford F-Series had the following trims: XLT, Lariat and King Ranch and the odd Harley Davidson edition.

    This generation of the F-Series marked the split of the F-150 from heavier-duty pick-ups. For 1997, all F-150s and lighter-payload F-250s used the new chassis, while heavy-payload F-250s and larger trucks remained on the existing platform. For 1998, only the F-150 and F-250LD were produced. In 1999, the F-250LD was rebadged the F-150 7700, and a new line was introduced, the Ford Super Duty. Super Duty models ranged from the F-250 through the F-750; the F-250 through F-550 (the latter being a chassis-cab model) were Ford manufactured and intended to replace the F-250 through F-Super Duty, while the F-650/F-750 was a joint venture with International, a replacement for the previous medium-duty trucks. In 1999, Ford developed and released the 20 valve Triton V10, 6.8L (415 CID) good for 305 Horsepower and 425 Lb-Ft of torque.

    For 2002, this version of the F-150 was sold by Lincoln-Mercury dealers as the Lincoln Blackwood. The first Lincoln pickup, the Blackwood was an F-150 SuperCrew with Lincoln Navigator front bodywork and interior. Unlike most pickup trucks, the pickup bed was redesigned into a trunk with a powered tonneau (decklid) and a fully lined and finished bed.

    In 2001, Ford introduced the King Ranch Edition for the super crew (and very limited special order super cab). This gives the truck a 2 tone paint scheme with black, white, brown, blue, or green primary color with a beige lower paint. The King Ranch trim has real cowhide saddle leather seats and console lid made by The King Ranch, with bucket seats and console in the back as an option.

    The SVT Lightning was produced from 1999-2004 (Heritage) and was available only as a single cab step side bed. It was powered by a Supercharged 5.4L 2v and had the heavy duty 4R100 transmission.

    In 2000, Ford introduced the Harley Davidson Edition.

    Eleventh generation (2004–08)[edit]

    For the 2004 model year, the F-150 was redesigned on an all-new platform. Externally similar to its predecessor, the eleventh-generation wore sharper-edged styling; a major change was the adoption of the stepped driver's window from the Super Duty trucks. Regardless of cabin type, all F-150s were given four doors. Ford also introduced the Triton engines in the 5.4L variants of the F-150.

    In late 2006, the Super Duty trucks were also given an all-new platform. While using the same bed and cabin as before, these are distinguished from their predecessors by an all-new interior and a much larger grille and head lamps. Previously available only as a chassis-cab model, the F-450 now was available as a pick-up directly from Ford.[4]

    From 2005 to 2008, Lincoln-Mercury dealers sold this version of the F-150 as the Lincoln Mark LT. Replacing the Blackwood, the Mark LT had a useful bed in place of its predecessor's trunk, but it was not a success in the United States. This model was discontinued in 2008.

    Twelfth generation (2009–14)[edit]

    The twelfth generation F-150 was introduced for the 2009 model year as an update of the Ford full-size truck platform. Similar to its predecessor, These trucks are distinguished by their Super Duty-style grilles and head lamps; standard cab models again have two-doors instead of four. The FlareSide bed was continued until 2010, dropped along with the manual gearbox; outside of Mexico, the Lincoln Mark LT was replaced by the F-150 Platinum. A new model for 2010 included the SVT Raptor, a dedicated off-road pick-up.

    As part of a major focus on fuel economy, the entire engine lineup for the F-150 (excluding the SVT Raptor) was updated for the 2011 model year. Along with two new V8 engines, the F-150 gained a new 3.7-Litre base V6 engine, and a powerful twin-turbocharged 3.5-Litre V6, dubbed EcoBoost by Ford. The automatic gearbox is the only option. Other modifications include the addition of a Nexteer Automotive Electric Power Steering (EPS) system on most models.

    A recent study[5] conducted by iSeeCars.com and published on Ford website listed Ford F-250 Super Duty as the top longest lasting car and Expedition, Explorer and F-150 in the top 20 longest lasting cars.

    Unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show on January 13, 2014, the all-new F-150 derives much of its exterior styling from the 2013 Ford Atlas concept vehicle.

    In an effort to increase fuel economy, the 2015 model reduces its curb weight by up to 700 pounds through the extensive use of aluminum in the body structure and high strength steel in the frame.[6] The only major component of sheet metal not made from aluminum is the Quiet Steel sound-absorbing firewall.[7][8]

    Retaining the use of body-on-frame construction, the frame is constructed with 77% high-strength steel (up from 23%).[7] The frame is manufactured in Elizabethtown, Kentucky by Metalsa which purchased Dana's structural products business.[9][10]

    To showcase the durability of the aluminum-intensive design, Ford entered disguised prototypes of the model in the Baja 1000, which it completed.

    The 2015 F150 is the first pickup truck with Adaptive Cruise Control, which uses radar sensors on the front of the vehicle to maintain a set following distance between it and the vehicle ahead of it, decreasing speed if necessary.

    Two engines are carried over from the 2014 F150, including the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost and 5.0L V8. New for 2015 is a 2.7L V6 Ecoboost, and a 3.5L V6 replaces the 2014 3.7L V6 as the base engine. The 3.5L V6 and 5.0L V8 are naturally aspirated and feature Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT), both have aluminum blocks and heads.

    The 2.7L and 3.5L Ecoboost engines both feature twin turbos and direct fuel injection.

    Special models[edit] Camper Special[edit]

    Available in various forms on the fourth, fifth, and sixth generation F-Series (1961-1979), the Camper Special was an option package on non-F100 pickups for owners of truck campers. Features included heavier-duty suspension and alternators, increased engine cooling, and pre-wiring for the truck camper.

    Eddie Bauer[edit]

    For 1995, Ford introduced the Eddie Bauer trim level for the F-150. In a fashion similar to the same trim packages on the Aerostar, Bronco, and Explorer/Bronco II, it consisted of outdoors-themed interior trim with two-tone exterior paint.

    F-150 Nite[edit]

    The "Nite" package was a special edition package that was available in 1991 and 1992. The package was for the most part an appearance package, with the most noticeable features being the black paint & trim, and special multicolor stripe. The Nite package (available on the XLT Lariat truck) also included 235/75/15 white-letter tires, alloy wheels, and sport suspension. In 1991, you could only get a "Nite" truck in a regular cab F150. In 1992, you could get it in any style F150 (styleside, supercab, etc.) in addition to the Bronco. These trucks came with either a 302 (5.0L) or 351 (5.8L) V8, and in either 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.

    SVT Lightning[edit] Second-generation Ford SVT Lightning

    The SVT Lightning is a sports/performance version of the F-150, released by Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) division. Introduced for the 1993 model year, the SVT Lightning competed against the Chevrolet 454SS, primarily as an effort to enhance the sporty, personal-use image of the Ford F-Series pick-up. Powered by a 240 hp 5.8-Litre V8, the Lightning shared its basic structure with the F-150, but many modifications were made to the suspension and the frame to improve the handling. Production was 11,563 SVT Lightnings between 1993 to 1995.

    In 1999, after a three-year hiatus, Ford SVT unveiled a new version of the Lightning. Much like its predecessor, it was based on the F-150 with substantial suspension modifications. Although the Lightning shared its 5.4-Liter V8 with the standard F-150, it now used a supercharger, producing 360 hp (380 after 2001). To handle the extra power, the 4-speed automatic gearbox was borrowed from Ford's V10/diesel Super Duty pick-ups. 28,124 SVT Lightnings were produced from 1999 until the vehicle was discontinued in 2004.

    Harley Davidson Edition[edit]

    In 2000, Ford released the first Harley Davidson Edition F-150; it was available in a SuperCab with a standard-length bed. For 2001, the Harley-Davidson Edition was moved to the Supercrew F-150. In 2002, Ford opted to further specialise the Harley Davidson Edition by adding the supercharged engine from the SVT Lightning, with a slightly larger upper pulley to reduce boost by 2 lbs. To coincide with Harley-Davidson's centenary, the 2003 edition added the requisite 100th Anniversary badging; these were available on Supercrew F-150s with the supercharged 5.4-Liter V-8.

    For the 2004–09 F-150, the Harley-Davidson Edition became mainly an appearance package; its availability was expanded to the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty series.

    On February 10, 2008 at the St. Louis Auto Show, the latest version of the Harley-Davidson F-150 was introduced. Adopting many luxury features of the Platinum Edition, this Harley went one step further by providing leather seating surfaces derived from authentic Harley biker-jacket materials, as well as the requisite exhaust tones and power to reach a top speed of 115 miles per hour (185 km/h).[12]

    In 2012 Ford discontinued the Harley Davidson Edition and replaced it with the Limited edition.

    SVT Raptor[edit]

    For the 2010 model year, Ford introduced the SVT Raptor model of the F-150. Intended for dedicated off-road use, the Raptor has a number of modifications to improve its off-road ability. It includes a full set of FOX shocks with 11.2" of front suspension travel and 12.1" of rear travel. It wears a wider body and wings than the standard F-Series truck. In a departure from the F-150, the Raptor wears no blue-oval Ford emblem on its grille (for the first time since 1981); instead, the grille has "FORD" spelled out in the center. In 2011, a full four-door SuperCrew lift kit model was added to the standard 4+4 door SuperCab model.

    The Raptor is powered by a 411 hp 6.2-Liter V8 (shared with the Ford Super Duty; a 5.4 liter V8 was available for the 2010 model year); it is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

    F-150 Platinum[edit]

    Ford ceased sales of the Lincoln Mark LT in the United States and Canada after the 2008 model year.[13] In its place beginning in the 2010 model year, Ford created an upper-end trim of the 2009 F-150 called F-150 Platinum. Due to its continuing popularity there, the Platinum is rebadged as the Lincoln Mark LT in Mexico.

    F-150 Tremor[edit]

    For the 2014 model year, Ford introduced the Tremor model of the F-150. The Tremor was released as high-performance sport truck for street truck enthusiasts. The Tremor is based on the style of the FX Appearance Package with the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine and a 4.10 rear axle. The interior uses a floor mounted shifter, custom bucket seats and a flow-through center console not found in any other F-150. The Tremor is available in both 4x2 and 4x4. Both options feature an electronic locking rear differential and customized suspension. 2230 total Tremor's were built

    Motorsports[edit]

    The truck won the San Felipe 250 eight times between 1999 and 2007.

    Greg Biffle won the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

    Drivers such as Roger Norman and Larry Roeseler won the Primm 300 in 2003, 2007 and 2008.

    In 2008, Ford announced its entrance into the Baja 1000 class-eight race for moderately modified, full-size pick-ups. The driver of record was Steve Oligos, supported by co-drivers Randy Merritt, Greg Foutz, and Bud Brutsman.[14] The vehicle was built with collaboration between the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT), Ford Racing, and Foutz Motorsports, Inc. The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R completed the 2008 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 race in 25.28:10,[15] and ranked third in its class.[16]Tavo Vildosola and Gus Vildosola won the event in 2010.

    In the Best In The Desert race series, a F150 SVT Raptor R completed the "Terrible's 250" race, placing second overall in the Class 8000.[17]

    In January 2010, a single Raptor SVT (#439), driven by Chilean driver Javier Campillay, competed in the Argentina-Chile Dakar Rally. However, the pick-up was unable to finish due to a catch-up crash with another car in the middle of the road during stage seven. In January 2011, two Raptors started in the Argentina-Chile Dakar Rally in Buenos Aires, with Campillay driving the more reliable Raptor (#375), and American female driver Sue Mead driving a T2 Raptor (#374). Mead crossed the finish line in Buenos Aires and won the "Super Production" class, the first North American class win in Dakar history. Campillay was unable to finish the 12th stage after losing time due to mechanical failure during the 11th stage, which led to his disqualification for failing to reach the race camp by the designated deadline.

    Ford also manufactures F-Series medium and heavy-duty pick-ups alongside the F-150, F-250, and F-350s (F-450, F-550, F-650, F-750 Super Duty trucks). Prior to 1998 in the United States, there were a number of variants sold alongside the F-Series.

    B-Series (1948-1998) - school bus chassis based on medium-duty F-Series Econoline/E-Series (1975-2014) - mechanically related to F-Series P-Series - parcel delivery van chassis An F-8000 was also produced based on the Ford Cargo cab-over range, which was similar to the 2006 and newer Ford LCF ("Low Cab Forward").

    While previously a unique platform, after their 1975 redesign, the Econoline/E-Series vans have maintained strong similarity with the F-Series pickup trucks, although it is now only mechanically true, as the latter has now undergone a number of redesigns since the last update of the vans in 1992.

    Medium-duty variants of the F-Series have their own chassis, sharing only the cab with lower-GVWR models. The current generation of F-650/F-750 Super Duty models combine the Ford Super Duty cab with a chassis shared with the International DuraStar line of trucks.

    Right-hand drive versions of the F-Series (for the United Kingdom and Australia) are manufactured in Brazil.

    In Argentina and Brazil, the petrol engines are often converted to also run with alternative fuels, E-96h (Brazilian-spec ethanol) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Biodiesel also is used in diesel engines.

    The Ford Super Duty is a line of trucks (over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg) GVWR) that were launched by Ford in early 1998 for the 1999 model year. The F-250 to F-550 Super Duties are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky. The F-650 and F-750 Super Duties were assembled at the Blue Diamond Truck plant in Mexico prior to 2014, when production was shifted to Avon Lake, Ohio.

    The Super Duty trucks are larger, heavier built series pickup trucks with heavier-duty body-on-frame steel ladder frames, axles, springs, brakes, transmissions, more powerful engines, and all other heavier/bigger components (with much higher payload and towing capacities) than the older traditional equivalent F-250, F-250HD (Heavy Duty), and F-350 Ford truck lines. The two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive model frames are the same in the F-250 and F-350 series, making conversion from a two-wheel-drive model to a four-wheel-drive model less difficult than in other truck models. F-350 chassis cab, F-450 and F-550 frames and suspension are the same between the two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models. The trucks were once under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for steering failures, but the investigation revealed the failures were driver error and had nothing to do with design.[3]

    In 1960, Ford re-branded the heaviest-GVWR versions of the F-Series (F-950) as Super Duty models; these were powered by the Ford gasoline engines of the same name.[4] In 1963, the Super Duty name reappeared on the gasoline-engined variants of the N-Series trucks.[5]

    On the F-Series line, the Super Duty name first appeared as the "F-Super Duty" in 1987 on Class 4 chassis-cab models.

    For the 1999 model year, Ford shifted the F-250 and F-350 truck lines to a design mechanically and cosmetically distinct from that of the F-150. The F-350 was not available for 1998, while a lighter-duty version of the F-250 was available that year with the F-150's body. By using two separate but related platforms for F-Series trucks, the inevitable compromises inherent in offering a wide range of load-carrying capacities were avoided. The main competition, General Motors, followed suit for the 2001 model year, when the GMC Sierra 3500 was introduced.

    For the first time, larger trucks utilized a different design distinct from the smaller F-150 half-ton pickups. Although considered part of the F-Series, the Super Duty trucks shared no common body components aside from their taillights; under the skin, only the 5.4L V8 was shared. The front was more boldly angular with a raised hood, similar to the Dodge Ram. As an industry first, 2 large complete ring-style front tow hooks were included. The side windows dropped lower forward in the door like a commercial medium to heavy duty truck (similar to a Kenworth "Daylight Door"), the grille was narrower and taller as if from a larger truck, and optional manual-telescoping trailer tow mirrors were available.

    There were three cab options: Regular cab (2–3 passengers) with two doors, SuperCab (5–6 passengers), which included two small "suicide" doors at the rear, and the Crew Cab (5-6 passengers) with four full doors. The Super and Crew cabs came with 6 3?4-foot (2.1 m) and 8-foot (2.4 m) full-size bed options, but the regular cab was only available with the 8-foot bed. The F-250 Super Duty would serve as the base platform for the Ford Excursion which was the only passenger SUV larger than the Chevrolet Suburban and its twin, the GMC Yukon XL.

    The Ford F-350 Super Duty first generation was also assembled in Venezuela as a commercial small truck from 1999 to 2010. For this market the F-350 featured the 5.4L V8 Triton engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, and a choice of 4x2 or 4x4.

    Ford Super Duty trucks were built in Brazil, with different engines than its North American counterparts and fewer options, initially between 1999 and 2011, with a limited reintroduction of the F-350 in 2014. The dual-rear wheel variant of the F-350 is known locally as F-4000. They were widely exported to Australia (F-250 and F-350), South Africa (F-250) and Argentina (F-250, rebadged as F-100, and the F-350 DRW rebadged as F-4000), usually following the Brazilian specification (with an obvious change of the cockpit location in the versions targeted to Australia, South Africa and other RHD markets) but Australia had a wider range of options in pair with its American counterparts, including automatic transmission and the V8 engines.[7]

    Powertrain[edit] Engines[edit]

    The Super Duty had several available engines.

    A 2-valve-per-cylinder 5.4 L Modular V8 with 255 horsepower (190 kW) and 350 ft·lbf (470 N·m) of torque was standard, while the 2-valve-per-cylinder 6.8 L Modular V10 with 310 horsepower (230 kW) and 425 ft·lbf (576 N·m) of torque was an option. In 1999, power output for the 16V 5.4L V8 increased slightly from 255 hp to 260 hp. For the 2005–2008 model years, all models equipped with the 5.4L Triton received the 3V SOHC heads. Power was now rated at 300 hp with 365 lb/ft of torque.

    Similarly, the MY2005 Triton V10 received 3-valve heads and output was raised to 362 hp (270 kW) and 457 lb·ft (620 N·m).

    7.3 Power Stroke[edit]

    The 7.3 Power Stroke turbodiesel with 235 horsepower (175 kW) and 500 ft·lbf (680 N·m) of torque from 1999 to 2000 and upped to 250 hp (190 kW) and 525 ft·lbf (712 N·m) of torque in 2001 thru first-quarter 2003 trucks equipped with an automatic transmission or 275 hp (205 kW) and 525 ft·lbf (712 N·m) of torque for trucks equipped with a manual transmission.

    6.0 Power Stroke[edit]

    The 6.0 Power Stroke with a variable-vane turbo was phased in starting in the second quarter of 2003; this engine produced 325 horsepower (242 kW) and 560 ft·lbf (760 N·m) of torque. The 6.0 L 32-valve pushrod-actuated Power Stroke single-turbo diesel was modified in 2004, boosting torque to 580 ft·lbf (790 N·m), but power remained the same as the previous version with 325 horsepower (242 kW). Due to impending tighter emissions requirements, along with a very high warranty exposure and over 500 full vehicle buybacks (175 by one northern California law firm alone),[8] 2007 models were the last to include the 6.0 L diesel.

    Brazilian versions[edit]

    Engines used in Brazil did not follow the American specifications so closely. The only gasoline-powered engine officially available for the F-250 in Brazil, Argentina and other regional export markets which were not supplied by the Venezuelan-built Super Duty was the Essex 4.2L V6, alongside at least one locally sourced turbodiesel option, while the F-350 SRW and its DRW derivative known locally as F-4000 were only available with 4-cylinder turbodiesels. For the F-250, Diesel options were the Cummins B3.9 rated at 141 hp from its introduction until 2001, the 4.2L inline-6 MWM 6.07 TCA rated at 180 hp from '99 to 2005, and the electronically-controlled Cummins ISB3.9 rated at 203 hp from late-2005 to 2011. The F-350/F-4000 had the same mechanically-controlled Cummins B3.9 from '98 to 2011, de-rated in 2005 from 141 hp to 120 hp for emissions-compliance, and phased out in late-2011, to be reintroduced only in 2014 with a high-speed Cummins ISF2.8 rated at 150 hp. The entire range was fitted exclusively with 5-speed manual transmissions from Mazda (V6 F-250), Eaton (Diesel F-250) and ZF (F-350/F4000). 4WD was introduced locally only in 2005 to Cummins-powered F-250 and F-4000.

    Four transmissions were available. Several configurations of ZF5 five speed manual transmissions were offered. Small block pattern, big block pattern, and diesel. Close ratio and wide ratios were available, as well as 4wd and 2wd configurations with the exception of integrated driveshaft brake 2wd versions using the 4x4 style transmission. Earlier s5-42 versions were rated to 420 ft-lbs of torque, while later s5-47 versions were rated to 470 ft-lbs. ZF 6-speed manual for diesel engines. An optional 4R100 4-speed automatic was available for either the gas or diesel engines, later being replaced with the TorqShift 5-speed automatic. The 5-speed automatics are rated at exactly 1,000 lb (450 kg) higher towing capacity than trucks with the standard 5/6-speed manual transmission. The 6-speed manual transmission comes with an integrated PTO.

    Torqshift 5R110[edit]

    The Torqshift 5-speed 5R110 automatic transmission replaced the 4-speed in the 2003 model year truck in order to compete with the Allison 1000 series from General Motors; it was paired with the new 6.0 L diesel engine. The TorqShift design in fact has six forward ratios, but only five are advertised, with the 'hidden' gear only used in extreme cold weather. The TorqShift 1st to 5th gear ratios are 3.11, 2.22, 1.55, 1.00, and 0.71:1. It also utilizes an alternate 4th gear, overdrive on 2nd gear of the 3-speed automatic component (0.72 x 1.55), that is 1.10:1 that is used under cold start conditions to aid engine and transmission warm up. On the TorqShift, once the Tow/Haul mode is activated it can help increase a driver's control when towing large loads up and down steep grades and automatically minimizes shifts and maximizes available torque. Upon descent, the Tow/Haul mode utilizes engine braking to help extend brake life and improve driver control. An adaptive shift function monitors the TorqShift's performance over its lifetime, and adjusts shift pressures in real time to assure consistent shift feel and compensate for wear. For ease of maintenance, the TorqShift's oil filter is a spin-off style, mounted on the passenger-side exterior of the transmission. Also the TorqShift's larger fluid lines and a larger transmission oil cooler help to assure cooler operating temperatures, even under the most demanding conditions. This was Ford's first automatic transmission to feature PTO. The transmission can be equipped with an integrated PTO provision (which automatically locks the torque converter providing power to the PTO gear when the operator turns on the PTO switch).[9]

    Transfer case and 4x4[edit]

    On 4x4 models there is a choice of a manual chain-driven transfer case floor shifter with manual front locking hubs or Electronic-Shift-On-the-Fly (ESOF, a $185 option over the manual) dash knob with vacuum activated automatic and (in case of failure) manual override front hubs. The optional FX4 models are basically a standard 4x4 with an Off Road package that includes a few extras like upgraded heavy duty Rancho shocks, limited-slip rear differential, added skid plates for the fuel tank and transfer case, and two "FX4" decals on both back bed-sides instead of the standard "4x4". For all 4x4 models, the 2-speed transfer case 4x4-LOW range has a gear reduction of 2.72:1.

    The front suspension on four-wheel drive F-250 and F-350s are equipped with solid front (monobeam) Dana 50 and Dana 60 axles. Prior to 2004, a Dana 60 was used on F-450 and F-550s; 2005–2007 models use a Dana Super 60. Leaf springs eventually got switched to coils for the 2005 model year and the front sway bar was relocated to a frame mounting location, instead of being part of the front axle's unsprung weight. The front suspension on two-wheel drive trucks is independent twin I-beam with coil springs on the F-250 and F-350 pickups, while a solid axle is used on F-350, F-450 and F-550 cab chassis trucks. The manual locking hubs on Super Duty trucks are made by Warn.[10]

    The rear suspension on all F-250 and F-350 SRW (single rear wheel) models use a 10.5-inch (270 mm) Sterling 10.5 axle 35-spline axle with choices of conventional or limited-slip differentials in 3.73, 4.10, and 4.30:1 ratios. The Sterling axle was upgraded for the Super Duty trucks. The ring gear was increased from the 10.25 inches to 10.50 and the carrier was upgraded with three pinions instead of two. Disc brakes were made standard. F-350 DRW models use a Dana 80. All models have heavy duty 3" wide leaf springs and staggered shock absorbers. A standard stabilizer bar is included on DRW (Dually) models. An optional slide-in camper certification package with heavier springs and an optional stabilizer bar package are available on SRW models. The rear suspension on F-450 trucks used Dana 80 axles while F-550 models used a Dana 135 until 2005 models. 2005–2007 models use a Dana S 110 axle.

    F-250 solid axle[edit]

    The Dana 50 axle featured on most F-250 Super Dutys differs greatly from the early models. The Dana 50 started out as a Twin Traction Beam axle (much like independent suspension) in 1980. This lasted all the way to 1997 models. The Super Duty models then used a solid axle version of this axle. The ring, pinion, carrier and u joints all remained the same however. The Dana 50 was phased out of the trucks in 2004, in favor of the Dana 60 and was last used in the Ford Excursion.

    The Super Duty line was restyled for 2005, with the exterior and interior receiving minor updates. The dashboard, gauges, headlights and badges were all updated, and a new, taller front grille, a revised interior and a standard locking tailgate were also added. Significant changes were also made to both the drivetrain and available options.

    Major changes over the previous generation of Super Duty trucks include increased payload (GVWR) and towing (GCWR) capacities.

    10-17% thicker partially boxed frame, alternator with a higher current capacity. Larger 4-wheel disc brakes (13.66-in front and 13.39 in (340 mm) rear rotors) with new two-piston calipers. Coil spring front axle for improved turning radius. An optional built-into-dash Ford TowCommand TBC (Trailer Brake Controller) that is fully integrated with the truck's PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) Optional dashboard-integrated auxiliary "upfitter" switches (for adding off road lights, winches, snow plows, etc.) Optional drivers side glove compartment. 17 inch wheels are now standard instead of 16 inch wheels (due to the bigger brakes). Forged Alcoa wheels are still an option as well. 18 inch wheels are also an option on single rear wheel trucks. 4x4 outer axle shafts got bumped up in size, standard 30 spline axles are gone in favor of 35 spline shafts. Revised engines. The two previous gas engines were upgraded from 2-valve-per-cylinder to 3-valve (2 intake and 1 exhaust) per cylinder designs. The standard 5.4 L V8 produces 300 horsepower (220 kW) and 365 foot-pounds force (495 N·m) of torque, and the optional 6.8 L V10 produces 362 hp (270 kW) and 457 ft·lbf (620 N·m).

    Fuel tank capacities are 38 U.S. gallons in the 8' long bed models, and 29 U.S. gallons in the 6.75' short bed models. Depending on models the optional trailer tow hitch receiver comes with a 2" or 2.5" Class V receiver and 4- and/or 7-pin wiring harness in either 12,500 or 15,000 lb (6,800 kg). All Super Duties include factory installed external oil and transmission coolers.

    Fail-Safe Cooling System[edit]

    Ford's "Fail-Safe Cooling System" is designed to protect the engine due to loss of coolant. If the engine overheats, it will automatically switch from 8/10-cylinder (depending on V8 or V10 engine) operation to alternating 4/5-cylinder (depending on V8 or V10 engine) operation. Because there is now 50% less hot combustion, the engine will operate cooler. The vehicle will continue to operate, but with very limited engine power. The now so-called 'dead' cylinders also act like an air pump to cool the engine down even more. This system allows the driver to travel a short distance to obtain service or to reach a repair facility. The distance that can be traveled depends upon vehicle load, outside temperature, and current road conditions.

    F-450/F-550[edit]

    To bridge the gap between the pickup line and the much larger medium-duty F-650/F-750, Ford introduced the F-450 and F-550 variants of the Super Duty; with an available GVWR from 17,950-19,500 lbs, it pushes the Super Duty into the Class 5 truck market. Available only as a chassis cab for commercial upfitters, both versions were fitted with dual rear wheels.

    While largely aimed at fleet buyers, F-450 and F-550 were configurable in XL, XLT, and Lariat trim levels available to Super Duty pickup buyers. The sole gasoline engine was the 6.8L V10 while the 7.3L PowerStroke was the diesel option; in 2003, this was replaced by the 6.0L PowerStroke.

    In 2005, the F-450 and F-550 received further updates to the exterior than the rest of the Super Duty line, with an extended front bumper and front fenders; the F-550 received a "wide-track" front axle to sharpen its turning radius.

    The second-generation Super Duty was to debut for model year 2007, but quality issues pushed it forward to the 2008 model year. It features an all-new 6.4 L, 390.5 cu in Power Stroke Diesel V8 with piezo fuel injectors and sequential turbos to replace the problematic 6.0 L Power Stroke single-turbo Diesel V8. The new engine produces 350 hp (260 kW) and 650 ft·lbf (880 N·m) of torque.[13] The vehicle had its first official showing at the Texas State Fair in 2006.

    Located near the same dash area as the last generation (but slightly to the right and more directly below the radio), this generation of Super Duty has the same Ford TowCommand TBC (Trailer Brake Controller) and 4 AUX Upfitter switches as the last generation set-up.

    There is an optional concealed slide-out step and swing-up hand grab bar in the rear tailgate for easy access.

    Ford introduces its all new optional "Rapid-Heat Supplemental Cab Heater," only available on Super Duty trucks with the Diesel engine and TorqShift automatic transmission. In the winter, it quickly raises the cabin temperature to a comfortable level until the engine is warm enough to handle the job.

    Trim[edit]

    This 2nd generation of Super Duty includes the F-250 Super Duty (starting at $22,380), F-350 Super Duty (starting at $24,025), and the all new F-450 Super Duty (starting at $39,205). The F-250 and F-350 Super Duty basically has the same payload and towing specs as the last generation.

    The model lineup for the 2010 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty is the XL (starting at $25,300), XLT (starting at $28,845), Lariat (starting at $36,420), Cabela's (starting at $42,655), King Ranch (starting at $42,955), and Harley-Davidson (starting at $56,925).

    The FX4 model, which was once just an optional Off Road 4x4 package that could be added to any model in the lineup, is replaced by the 4x4 Off Road Package. The FX4 became a model of its own. It still had the same specs as the previous generation but with more of a sporty trim package. The FX4 model has been discontinued for the 2010 model year and has been reverted to an optional Off Road 4X4 package.

    Powertrain[edit]

    The same 2 gas engines are carried over and rated exactly the same from the 2nd generation. The 3-valve 5,408 cc (5.408 L; 330.0 cu in) V8 SOHC is standard. The 3-valve 6,802 cc (6.802 L; 415.1 cu in) V10 SOHC was still a $699 option over the 5.4L V8.[14] The 4-valve Navistar 6.4 L (6400 cc, 390.5 cu in) V8 OHV Power Stroke diesel engine was the diesel engine option and was a $6,895 option over the 5,408 cc (5.408 L; 330.0 cu in) V8.

It has 2 available axle ratios of 4.30 and 4.88:1. The F-450 Super Duty with the optional 'High Capacity Trailer Tow Package' increases the GCWR from 26,000 to 33,000 lb (15,000 kg). Maximum payload is 6,120 lb (2,780 kg). Maximum towing is 24,500 lb (11,100 kg) (4.88 axle ratio) / 20,500 lb (9,300 kg) (4.30 axle ratio). It comes standard with Crew Cab, 8-foot (2.4 m) long bed, DRW (Dual Rear Wheels), Limited Slip rear axle, 10-lug 19.5-inch (500 mm) Forged wheels made by Alcoa, Trailer Tow package, and the TowCommand TBC (Trailer Brake Controller). The only engine offered in the F-450 Super Duty is the 6.4 L V8 Power Stroke Sequential turbo diesel. The F-450 is equipped with a standard 6-speed manual or optional 5-speed TorqShift automatic transmission.

    The Super Duty line received a large exterior upgrade that includes a new, bigger front fascia. Its engines were also upgraded to better compete with the new Silverado HD and Ram HD. Ford stated in the 2011 Chicago Auto Show that the 2011 trucks have the thickest gauge steel frame of any Heavy Duty truck. The 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty was awarded Truckin's "Topline Pulling Power" award for 2011. It also won Popular Mechanics best workhorse of 2011, and the best "Gear of the Year" in the trucks category. The F-450 is able to tow 24,400 pounds (11,100 kg) and has a maximum payload of 4,920 pounds (2,230 kg). The F350 has a maximum 21,600 pounds (9,800 kg) of towing capacity and 7,110 pounds (3,230 kg) of payload.[17] Each engine is mated to a 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission.[18] The Ford F-250, the F-350 and the F-450 all come with trim levels including the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum.[19]

    The 3rd generation of the Ford Super Duty Trucks are assembled at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant, with additional production for other countries in Venezuela and Mexico. In Venezuela the F-350 super duty is offered as a commercial use small truck cutaway featuring a 6.2L V8 gas engine with a 5-speed manual tremec transmission TR-4050 with a choice of 4x2 or 4x4 wheel drive. Since 2012 due to government regulations, the Venezuelan F-350 Super Duty is factory equipped to use both natural gas and gasoline. The F-250 super duty was also recently re-introduced in this market after ten years. It is being marketed using the same engine as the Venezuelan F-350, but only with a 6-speed automatic transmission, 4x2 or 4x4 wheel drive option in both single and double cab configurations.

    A feature unique to the 2011 Super Duty is the addition of a locking differential. It is only available for the F-250 and SRW F-350 4x4 models with a rear Sterling 10.5 axle. It is a 390.00 USD option[20] The diesel F-250 relies on vacuum-boost brakes, while the F-350 relies on Hydro-boost. Both gas versions of the F-250 and SRW F-350 use vacuum-boost. F-250 is a class 2 truck. While the F-350 SRW, F-350 DRW, & F-450 pickup are class 3. The F-250 and F-350 (SRW & DRW) have 13.66 inch front brakes and 13.39 inch rear brakes. The F-450 pickup has 14.53 inch front brakes and 15.35 inch rear brakes. The F-450 has a wider track than the F-350. The F-450 remains available in class 4 as a Chassis Cab truck.

    Powertrain[edit] Engines[edit]

    The 2011 Ford Super Duty is available with either a gas or diesel engine. The gas option is an E85-capable 6.2 L 2-valve SOHC V8, which puts out 385 horsepower (287 kW) and 405 pound-feet (549 N·m) of torque. The diesel is the new 6.7 L Power Stroke V8, producing 390 hp (291 kW) and 735 lb·ft (997 N·m) of torque.[21] The new engine is an entirely Ford product, unlike previous diesels, therefore reducing development costs and shipping delays. The 6.8-liter V10 was dropped from the regular Super Duty models, however it is still an option with the F-450 and F-550 chassis cabs, mated with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

    Shortly after the unveiling of the 6.7 L Power Stroke V8, GM unveiled the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 3500HD with Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8, making 397 hp (296 kW) and 765 lb·ft (1,037 N·m) of torque. Ford quickly responded by boosting the output of the Power Stroke just months after its initial release, to 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 800 lb·ft (1,100 N·m) of torque. For customers who purchased a Super Duty with the original Power Stroke V8, Ford offered a free upgrade at dealerships to the new level of output.[22] Power and torque was increased to 440 horsepower (328 kW) and 860 lb·ft (1,170 N·m) of torque on 2015 models.

    No manual transmission is available in the United States, only an automatic but it features a manual mode.The diesel engine's transmission optionally features a PTO and is a "live-drive" unit. "Live-drive" meaning the PTO is directly connected to the engines crankshaft, whereas the Torqshift 5R110, GM's Allison 1000 transmission and Ram's Aisin use a torque converter or clutch (depending on being an automatic or manual, respectively).

    A belt-driven pump mounted low on the driver side circulates the high-temperature coolant, while a separate belt-driven pump mounted higher on the passenger side circulates the low-temperature coolant.

    F-450 pickup[edit]

    The F-450 pickup is available only in a single configuration; a crew cab with a dual rear-wheel 8-foot bed. The only powertrain combination is the 6.7 L Powerstroke turbodiesel V8 mated to the six-speed TorqShift automatic transmission. Trims include the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum

    The Ford Chassis cabs were updated using the new 2011 body style. Ford chassis cabs are still rated up to the industry maximum 19,500 pound Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The Gross Combined weight was upped 2,000 pounds to 35,000 lb maximum; 5,000 pounds greater than the nearest competitor.[23]

    Variants[edit] Medium-duty trucks (F-650 and F-750)[edit] 2005-2015 Ford F750 Super Duty crew cab in use as a railroad maintenance truck

    In 2000, Ford returned to the Class 6-7 truck market as it expanded the Super Duty line into the medium-duty segment. Developed in a joint venture with Navistar International, the F-650 and F-750 Super Duty were assembled in Mexico. While the chassis and other components would be common to both manufacturers, Ford and International would each source their own bodywork and powertrain; the cab for the Ford trucks would be common with other Super Duty models.

    For the 2016 model year, the medium-duty truck range was given a major upgrade, following the end of the joint venture and the shift of the production to the United States. In place of outsourced engines and transmissions, the 2016 F-650 and F-750 now use a 6.8L gasoline V10, a 6.7L PowerStroke diesel V8, and a 6-speed automatic transmission supplied by Ford.

    Sport-utility vehicles[edit]

    From 2000 to 2005, the F-250 Super Duty served as a basis for the Ford Excursion sport-utility vehicle. Along with Chevrolet Suburban (and its variants) and the International Harvester Travelall, the Excursion is the longest non-limousine sport-utility vehicle ever sold.

    Due to high fuel costs, Brazilian versions featured smaller engines and only coupled to 5-speed manual transmissions (Mazda for the gasoline-powered and Eaton for the Diesel versions of the F-250 and ZF for both the F-350 and F-550). The 4.2L Essex V6 was short-lived, available until late 2001 and in the F-250 only. Diesel options were the 3.9L Cummins B-series, rated at 141 hp for the F-250 until 2001 and for the F-350 (including the dual rear wheel versions rebadged locally as F-4000) until late 2004 when it was detuned to 120 hp to meet local emissions regulations. In 1999 the 180 hp MWM-International 4.2L Sprint 6.07 TCA was introduced as an option for the F-250, being dropped only in 2005 in favor of a 203 hp version of the Cummins B-Series fitted with electronic common-rail injection, while the F-350 and F-550 remained with a Bosch P-Type mechanical injection pump due to concerns regarding easy maintenance and lower cost. 4x4 remained an export-only option until 2005, and automatic transmissions were featured only in Australian-market units, as a standard with the 5.4L Triton and optional with the 7.3L PowerStroke. The MWM-International engine was never available with automatic transmission, but 4x4 was available for export to Australia and Africa. In September 2014, the F-350/F-4000 was reintroduced in Brazil, powered by a Cummins ISF2.8 engine coupled to an Eaton 5-speed manual transmission, available only in chassis-cab, with 4x4 available only for the DRW F-4000.

    As of 2014, the Ford Super Duty is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela (F-250 and F-350) Brazil (F-350/F-4000), Argentina (F-4000 only), Angola (F-250 and F-350), Cambodia, the Middle East, and Iceland (F-350 only) in LHD only. In Australia, where it was officially imported in RHD from Brazil until 2005, newer American-built units can be imported but must be converted locally to RHD.

    Today on our 2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty, we're going to review and install the CURT front mounted trailer hitch part number C31018. Now with our hitch installed, here's what it'll look like. As you can see the majority of our hitch is covered behind the front air dam. The only thing we really have exposed is the side bracket. This is a full steel and welded construction. It's got a nice black powder coated finish and when installing your pin and clip, you just need to reach behind the air dam to access the pre-drilled 5/8" inch pinholes.

    Today on our 2012 Ford F250, were going to review and install the Bulldog Front Winch Wiring Kit part number BDW20025. Heres what our winch wiring will look like once installed. Let's go ahead and take a look at the frame bracket right here. This bolts up to the frame of the truck and requires no drilling of holes in the frame whatsoever. Now, we'll go ahead and show you what the hitch looks like when it's installed in the truck. First off, we'll go ahead and show you how it operates. We're looking at the fender well on the driver's side and we see the handle right here. Pull it out and twist it forward, maybe a little bit of downward pressure as well. This won't move very far forward at all and when you're ready to lock it back into place, twist it backwards towards the back of the truck.

    Husky Liners Tailgate Installation - 2012 Ford F-350

    Today, on this 2012 Ford F-350 Super Duty, we're going to show you Husky Liners Premium 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate, part number HL15130. This is what the tailgate looks like when it's installed on our truck. Take a outward look, you can see it has a nice silver finish to it, which works with a lot of different variety of colors of trucks. We'll go ahead and check the shape of it, it actually matches the contour of the truck lines pretty well. Of course, it's a 5th wheel tailgate, so you got a nice opening for your 5th wheel to fit into. Also, it works great with the previously installed Gooseneck Hitch as well. All right, let's go ahead and check out the opening. At the minimum, it's going to be about 15 inches and its maximum is going to be about 29 inches. A couple other details, is that this is constructed from all aluminum and also with a painted finished as well.

    Speaker: Today, on our 2012 Ford F250, we will be doing a test fit of the Thule Gate Mate. This is going to be your 62-inch model of the tailgate cover pad so you can put your bike up on the back side of your vehicle. We're going to show you how it goes on and how it looks. First thing you're going to want to do is undo your straps and place it over the tailgate. This part number is going to be TH824. It will go on just like that.     Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs Installation - 2012 Ford F-250

    Today on our 2012 Ford F250, were going to be installing the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs, part number F2535. First, were going to go ahead and take a measurement before we install the airbags. Well go ahead and take a measurement here. Without our airbags in and theres no weight in the bed of the truck, were at about 40-3/4 inches from the ground to the bottom of the wheel well. Were going to go ahead and add approximately 1500 pounds of weight to the bed of this vehicle. Now were just over 38-1/2 inches.

    Firestone Level Command II Installation - 2012 Ford F-250

    Today on our 2012 Ford F250, we're going to be installing the Firestone Level Command II, Standard Duty Compressor with a Single-Gauge, Part Number F2158. Before we begin our installation, this vehicle already has the airbags installed on it. We're going to need to make sure that there's no air left in either of the air bags. We're going to go ahead and bleed off the air. Next, we're going to need to choose the mounting location for our compressor. We're underneath the driver side along the inside of the frame rail. We're going to go ahead and pull the wire bundle here out of the frame with this little clip.

    Gooseneck Hitch Installation - 2012 Ford F-250

    Today on our 2012 Ford F250, we'll be installing the Blue Ox under-bed Gooseneck hitch, part number DH1204. We can now go over operation of the new Gooseneck head. We'll take our ball, line up the cut out groove in the side of the ball with the nipple in the Gooseneck throat dropping the ball in place, turning it, and locking it into position. Then to remove the Gooseneck ball, we'll simply press on the lock, rotate it, and pull up and out removing the ball from the throat. To put the ball into the stored position, we'll simply turn it over, line the cut out with the nipple and then drop it into place. Now, we'll go ahead with our install. Note that we've already gone ahead and lowered and removed the spare tire and both rear wheels. Using the mark in the center of the bed, already premade by the manufacturer, we'll use it as the mark for our pilot hole that we'll eventually enlarge for the throat of our Gooseneck.

    Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Ford F-250

    Today, on our 2012 Ford F 250, we'll be installing the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness with 7 Pole Plug, Part Number 41157. To begin our install, we'll first locate in the pickup bed where we will be mounting our new 7 pole connector. Here on the driver side between the wheel well and the rear tail light, would be a perfect location. We'll go ahead and use a pilot bit to drill out the hole. We'll go ahead and use our hole saw to drill out the larger hole so that it will fit the socket and connector. Now, with the large hole drilled out, move underneath the vehicle. We'll need to remove the manufacturer's 7 pole plug to gain access to the connector wiring.

In this case we went ahead and chose an area on the side of the bed on the drivers side just in front of the wheel well, and went ahead and made sure that there was pretty of clearance behind the inner bed wall. We went ahead and used a 3/4 inch bit and put a pilot hole. Next we'll go ahead and use a two-inch hole saw to drill our hole. Now we'll go ahead and feed the wires from the wiring harness through the hole pushing all the wiring through so that the plug will sit flush against the side of the bed.

    Today in our 2012 Ford F-350, we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, part number 9460-48. Our first step is going to be to lower the rear exhaust tailpipe. To do this, I've found it's easiest to go ahead and remove the rear bracket fasteners and three flange fasteners, and go ahead and remove the tailpipe from the truck.     Today on this 2012 Ford S250 we're going to install part number TFR250SDG Timbren. Our first step is to go ahead and remove the original jump start. You can bolt it from the top using 15mm ratchet range. Now it's unbolted we'll go ahead and get our Timbren spring and some preassembling. We'll take the spring and the bracket and we'll bolt them together using the longer of the two bolts with lock washer. Now there's a flat washer already located inside the sprint.

    Today on this 2012 Ford F-250, were going to do a test fit of part number RX5079279 from Rain-X. This is Rain-X Latitude Windshield Wiper Blade. A few things to know that this is a beam style blade is that gives it a constant contour against the windshield and also has UV inhibiters and a squeegee to help protect you from the sunlight. To start off our test fit, well go ahead and remove the original windshield wiper blades. Theres a small tab that we have to lift up. We'll use a small screw driver then we could slide it off the arm.

    Today on our 2012 Ford F350 we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose 30K Gooseneck Head, part number 9460 in conjunction with the Gooseneck Mounting Kit, part number 4448. Now we've already gone ahead and removed the spare tire from the vehicle so our next step will be to remove the exhaust. We'll need to unbolt the hangers from the frame of the truck as we'll need to install hanger extensions before reinstalling our exhaust we'll undo the rear hanger here undoing the 1/10-mm bolt on the bottom side of the frame as well as the 10-mm bolt on the inside of the frame rail. We can then move forward on the truck and undo the two 13-mm nuts holding that hanger in place. They do face up towards the bed of the truck. It is quite a tight fit to get those undone.

    Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Ford F-350

    Today on our 2012 Ford F-350, well be installing the Pollak 5th Wheel Gooseneck T-Connector 7-Pole, part number PK11893-11932. Now to begin our installation, at the factory 7-pole, well need to unplug the connector. Well push the gray lock tab back and remove it from the factory 7-pole. Well take the T-connector from the Pollak Gooseneck Harness and plug one side into the connector and the other into the factory 7-pole. With those connections made, well route the wire up through the drivers side rear of the bed where well mount our bed 7-pole. We can then move up into the bed of the truck where well find a suitable location here on the drivers side rear of the bed, and after finding that suitable location, well use a center punch to start a hole.
