Rutherford County is getting the a new rebuilt elementary school, and another is being substantially expanded. The lowest and best bid for construction of the new building at John Colemon Elementary in Smyrna, on the same property as the current school, is $17,246,700 from R. G. Anderson Construction, and the board unanimously accepted it. A lowest bid of... Rutherford County Schools have 872 more students enrolled this fall than were enrolled when school ended last spring, for a total of 42,248 students currently attending schools in the county district. Board Member Jeff Jordan pointed out that much of that growth is in the northwest portion of the county, where the new school construction is planned. "Two years ago, we built Stewart's Creek High School because of extreme overcrowding in LaVergne, Smyrna and Blackman high schools. This fall, almost 600 of those new students are in those four high schools," Jordan told the board. He also said that the new gym floors at Oakland and Riverdale high schools are much appreciated.
